We are dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Alamo and engaging the public through educational programs, outreach initiatives, and community events.
Position Summary
Alamo Trust, Inc. is seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President of External Affairs to lead its communications, public relations, community engagement, government relations, and membership initiatives. This role will serve as the public face of the organization, working closely with stakeholders across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors to promote the Alamo’s mission and impact.
Key Responsibilities
Communications & Public Relations
– Serve as a primary spokesperson for the organization with the media and public.
– Develop and lead effective internal and external communications strategies.
– Build and maintain ongoing communications processes and tools.
– Manage crisis communications with a proactive, strategic approach.
– Oversee press releases, media inquiries, and brand messaging.
Community Engagement & Events
– Organize and execute large-scale public events (e.g., 4th of July, Christmas, Veterans Day).
– Develop annual event programming for Plaza de Valero.
– Build and maintain relationships with neighborhood groups, downtown stakeholders, and the broader San Antonio community.
– Develop a corporate marketing and outreach plan to increase local engagement and event sponsorships.
– Present the Alamo Plan to community groups and potential partners to build awareness of the changes underway at the Alamo.
Government Relations
– Monitor local, state, and federal legislation relevant to the Alamo.
– Cultivate and maintain relationships with elected officials at the city, county, and state levels.
– Represent the organization at legislative convenings and government forums.
Corporate Membership Program Development
– Lead the strategic growth of the corporate membership program.
– Introduce new membership tiers and benefits for corporate partnerships.
– Track and report on membership growth, engagement, and renewals.
Qualifications
– 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in public relations, external affairs, or a related field.
– Proven experience as a spokesperson and leader in communications and public engagement.
– Demonstrated success in organizing large-scale public events and building strategic partnerships.
– Deep understanding of crisis communication strategies.
– Strong relationships within the government and media sectors are highly valued.
– A graduate degree in communications, public affairs, or a related field is preferred.
– Knowledge of the San Antonio community and its stakeholders is strongly preferred.
