Virtual Workshop
Storytelling for Advocacy
July 9, 2024
1:30 p.m.−3:45 p.m. ET
Your advocates have stories to tell, and your program should help them. Personal experiences make your message more meaningful and compelling to lawmakers and emphasize the need for action. This workshop will demonstrate how storytelling can be used to enhance your grassroots efforts, empower your advocates and reach your goals.
1:30 p.m.
Identifying and Cultivating Quality Advocate Stories
Storytelling can be the game-changer your advocacy program needs. When curated authentically, advocate stories are both more compelling and successful at swaying policymakers than dry talking points or statistics. Don’t get caught unprepared for a campaign – with advance planning and the participation of your advocates, you can build a collection that allows you to respond with authentic stories every time.
In this session, we will cover:
- What makes a compelling story
- How to build a quality story bank
- How to integrate stories into your advocacy strategy

Training Your Advocates to Be Storytellers
A story is only as good as the person telling it. Make sure that your advocates are trained to tell their stories in ways that successfully educate lawmakers, share what is at stake and express your desired legislative outcome.
You’ll learn how to:
- Create an environment in which advocates feel safe and comfortable communicating their personal experiences
- Train advocates to confidently and succinctly share their stories
- Help advocates relate their personal experiences to your legislative ask
