Overview
This position will be part of the government affairs team, responsible for engaging with colleagues at company headquarters in North Carolina and Washington, DC, to analyze the impact of legislative and regulatory proposals relevant to the business and key stakeholders. They’ll assess policy advocacy and engagement priorities and represent the company with relevant stakeholders at all levels of the U.S. government, focusing on state and local policymakers in the Lowe’s West Division.
Responsibilities
- Policy Analysis: Support the government affairs team and internal business clients by providing policy analysis on multiple public policy issues at local and state levels. Issue areas of focus will include, but are not limited to workforce development, sustainability, financial services, public safety, transportation, and supply chain.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with the government affairs team to provide Lowe’s internal business clients information, guidance, and counsel on public policy initiatives affecting the company.
- Industry Trends: Maintain a comprehensive understanding of legislation, emerging issues, and industry trends, ensuring stakeholders are informed.
- Strategic Engagement: Proactively assess, develop, and execute strategic engagement plans on public policy and business initiatives.
- Advocacy: Build content for advocacy campaigns and provide strategic input on engaging in campaigns and coalitions.
- Representation: Represent the company at political events, industry meetings, conferences, and other external functions.
- Team Player: Collaborate and support relevant initiatives to advance the company’s agenda and manage state contract lobbying activity and consultants.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree:
Experience: 5-7 years in state legislature, governor’s office, large city/county office, or similar, including previous experience in government relations, public affairs, or lobbying at a Fortune 200 company or trade association.
Travel: Willing to travel up to 40% of the time for business purposes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in government affairs in the retail industry or multi-state region.
- Knowledge of public policy and state legislative and regulatory processes.
- Ability to analyze and present legislation.
- Experience with grasstops and grassroots advocacy.
- Exceptional judgment, multitasking ability, and communication skills.
