The Senior Grassroots Manager is responsible for enhancing the advocacy efforts of ABC by identifying and developing ABC member, ABC member employees and industry champions from targeted local, state and federal lawmaker districts to engage in political and educational campaigns aligned with ABC’s government affairs program’s objectives and strategic plan. The position manages the ABC Action grassroots program and ABC Action App.
The Senior Grassroots Manager reports directly to the Vice President of Regulatory, Labor and State Affairs but collaborates closely with all members of ABC’s Government Affairs team. This is a great opportunity to get experience and exposure to all aspects of a leading trade association’s government affairs strategy.
### DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
#### Responsibilities:
– Collaborates directly with ABC National government affairs and public affairs staff and ABC chapters to increase member and employee grassroots engagement, collects compelling member stories that would draw positive attention to ABC issues and highlights the value proposition for ABC members with respect to grassroots involvement and ABC political and advocacy engagement.
– Creates legislative, policy and political action alerts to ABC members and employees targeting federal lawmakers and officials through collaboration with the ABC National government affairs team.
– Enhances ABC chapter and state association staff, ABC members and ABC member employee efforts to strengthen ABC’s advocacy campaigns targeting state and local lawmakers.
– Manages action alerts targeting state and local lawmakers and political activities in coordination with some ABC chapters.
– Assists ABC National government affairs team facilitating, tracking and promoting lawmaker visits to ABC events and ABC member jobsites.
– Manages ABC Action grassroots program and ABC Action App developer/vendor to update app at appropriate junctures and troubleshoot user experience.
– Works directly with ABC chapters and ABC stakeholders to increase the number of ABC Action App downloads/participants and engagement.
– Maintains ABC Action grassroots database, fields data inquiries and manages grassroots vendor.
– Manages ABC’s annual Grassroots Awards program for ABC chapters.
– Writes occasional articles for ABC and industry publications and letters to Congress and elected officials on behalf of ABC stakeholders.
– Assists ABC National government affairs and public affairs staff with maintaining, vetting and populating ABC’s advocacy-related social media outlets and providing integrity, timeliness and consistency of the ABC advocacy message.
– Maintains content of relevant ABC National government affairs websites.
– Collaborates with ABC’s Political Affairs team on GOTV, chapter and member education efforts and visits.
– Provides support to government affairs team projects, as needed.
– Contacts ABC members and coaches members through the grassroots process, including facilitating contact between association members and their elected officials.
– Develops and implements a program to facilitate the involvement of ABC member employees in the grassroots advocacy and political process.
– Educates ABC members on how to best engage their workers and how to articulate why ABC’s core issues impact them and their families.
– Occasionally travels to member firms and helps ABC member executives directly engage their employees in grassroots campaigns.
– Occasionally travels to industry, ABC National and chapter events and conferences.
The position will require travel approximately 10% of the incumbent’s time.

#### Qualifications and Experience
– Bachelor’s degree in related field at an accredited college or university.
– At least three to four years in government affairs setting including at least one year of work experience in grassroots and/or one of the following areas: digital advocacy, construction industry, small business, associations, state/local government, or public relations.
– Background or skills related to journalism, video and online digital media and advocacy a plus.
– Strong project management skills.
– Excellent customer service skills.
– Must be outgoing, personable, and comfortable speaking to C-suite executives and craft employees and present at conferences and small meetings.

#### Physical Demands:
While performing the responsibilities of the Grassroots Senior Manager position, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
#### Work Environment:
This position offers the option of a hybrid work schedule which will consist of both a required on-site presence and the ability to work remotely on a regular basis.
This position is performed in a typical office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
