Job Summary

The Associate Director, Government Relations will lead the eastern region state policy and regulatory strategy for The US Oncology Network on behalf of the Government Relations & Public Policy team. The position will involve working in multiple business and public policy issue areas, including responsibility for state policy initiatives and Medicaid reimbursement and regulations. This individual will act as an organizational expert on state legislation, policy research, analysis, and forecasting.

This role will also be responsible for crafting, messaging, and executing state legislative and regulatory strategies through leadership roles with allied associations and industry trade groups. Additionally, the role involves developing and executing a comprehensive plan to increase Network practice participation in the legislative process through site visits, town hall meetings, and political events. The individual will manage multiple outside consultants to accomplish these goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, analyze, and forecast Network-specific implications of state policy legislation and regulatory proposals.
  • Advance Network priorities through engagement with state policymakers and regulators.
  • Direct management of outside consultants and lobbyists through Network contracts.
  • Develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships with allied industry organizations to assist in achieving public policy goals; serve as a liaison between The Network and industry groups.
  • Develop and maintain trusted advisor relationships with Network physicians and practice management.
  • Strengthen physician relationships with key government policymakers to ensure effective advocacy, including all necessary mobilization tactics to ensure that Network physicians can participate in meetings with relevant organizations and elected officials.
  • Support the federal government relations team as needed, and as federal legislative priorities arise when most state legislative sessions are adjourned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent and typically requires 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • 4-year degree in public policy, political science, or related field.

Critical Skills

  • Typically has 5+ years of public affairs experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of political, legislative, regulatory, and related public affairs processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Requirements

  • Professional experience working in a state legislature on health policy or in a health policy capacity at a corporation or advocacy organization preferred.
  • Ability to master complex issues and simplify them to educate and persuade policymakers.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to juggle multiple issues simultaneously and prioritize accordingly.
  • Ability to work independently but collaboratively.

Physical Requirements

  • Traditional office environment.
  • Travel up to 50%.
  • Large percent of time performing computer-based work is required.

Our Base Pay Range for This Position

$111,200 – $185,300
