Position Summary
Reports to: Director of Content Marketing
The Marketing & Communications team at Destination DC (DDC) crafts brand messaging and marketing strategies specifically for Washington, DC, the product we represent. Our diverse team includes graphic designers, content developers, social media specialists like you, advertising planners, PR experts, event activators, and more. We work together to position Washington, DC as a top-tier destination for locals, visitors, and convention attendees to explore and enjoy.

As the Social Media Manager, you’ll be a key player in our content team, owning and executing a strategic approach to DDC’s social media marketing efforts. This exciting role offers you the opportunity to manage a Social Media Coordinator, working in tandem to ignite brand engagement across DDC’s social media channels for both our consumer and industry audiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Brand & Content Marketing
Develops and executes a comprehensive organic social media strategy across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Pinterest, including B2C brand (@visitwashingtondc) and B2B brand (@destinationdc) accounts, aligning with brand, campaigns, and business objectives.
Content Creation
Leads the creation of compelling and informative content tailored to leisure and industry audiences, including engaging multimedia content, industry insights, member and partner support, and stories that inspire travel.
Day-to-Day Support
Achieves social media objectives by creating and executing social videos, stories, giveaways, scheduled and real-time posts, and other social content across industry and leisure social.
Ideation & Impact
Is a constant source of creative, big ideas that lead to organic social media-focused campaigns, continually highlighting the destination and brand in unique ways.
Team Engagement
Manages Social Media Coordinator in support of organic social strategy, developing content calendar that aligns with broader content marketing goals; leads organization-wide trainings and advocacy to source visual content and amplify owned channels.
Social Tools
Utilizes visual and social listening tools to manage user-generated assets, identify trends, monitor competitor activity, and gather audience insights to inform content strategy.
Community Engagement
Answers direct messages and comments daily across key channels, along with Social Media Coordinator.
Creative Services
Serves as the social media lead on internal creative services requests to support internal departments, including partnerships, memberships, convention sales and services, and others.
Analytics & Reporting
Tracks key performance indicators to measure engagement, impact of social media efforts on brand awareness, audience growth, and lead generation; provides high-level analysis and communicates strategy shifts.
Industry Awareness
Shares industry trends, new tools, and platform updates to ensure content remains engaging for travelers.
Destination Expert
Taps into the latest buzz about the nation’s capital, gets out into the city to create new content, establishes relationships with counterparts and brands to share the most compelling content.
Other Projects and Duties as Assigned
What You Bring: Knowledge, Competencies & Skills
- Minimum of 3 years’ previous social media management experience; prior experience as a copywriter.
- Demonstrated success with people management.
- Must reside within the DC metropolitan area.
- Four-year degree from an academic institution in marketing or relevant field, preferred.
- Proficient in using social media management platforms like Sprout.
- Advanced expert knowledge of the marketing applications of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok, and other social media platforms.
- Aptitude for crafting engaging content.
- Excellent verbal, written, and proofreading skills.
- Experience in creating social media strategies.
- Demonstrated experience in monitoring, measuring, and analyzing social media activity.
- Ability to solve problems and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to organize and synthesize information from multiple sources.
- Willing to work weekends and evenings.
