VOA-Greater New York is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey, and Westchester County, including emergency, transitional, and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

Position: Senior Communications Associate (Hybrid Remote)

The Senior Communications Associate is responsible for producing long- and short-form written content that supports VOA-GNY’s strategic marketing and multi-channel communications plan.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field, and three years of relevant professional experience, or satisfactory combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and write engaging and persuasive materials with the highest attention to detail.
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills and understanding of voice, nuance, and audience. Must be able to effectively and respectfully conduct interviews.
  • Ability to think creatively and analytically, and to understand and simplify complex issues.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks against tight deadlines.
  • Experience collaborating across departments and functional groups. Highly adaptable with excellent problem-solving skills and is a self-starter.
  • A high level of proficiency using all Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required.

All applicants must also submit at least two writing samples of different types (i.e., researched article, press release, fundraising letter, impact story); portfolios are encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Produce thoughtful and high-quality written content in alignment with the team’s content calendar, including client stories, op-eds, press releases, talking points, messaging documents, and internal newsletter articles.
  • Foster relationships and collaborate with team members, other departments, subject matter experts, and clients to produce written content; includes conducting interviews as needed.
  • Conduct research as needed.
  • Ensure content aligns with the style and tone of the brand and is tailored for its specific purpose and/or the platform on which it will be published.
  • Conduct keyword research for SEO purposes when writing digital content, incorporating any relevant keywords.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members, departments, and programs across the organization to ensure written and visual content has a consistent tone and style that reflects the brand; includes proofreading reports and other communications.
  • Work closely with the Communications Manager to produce written content for VOA-GNY’s email marketing activities.
  • Work closely with the Communications Team to produce VOA-GNY’s annual report.
  • Support VOA-GNY’s PR efforts by writing and/or editing press releases, op-eds, and messaging documents, tracking media placements, conducting research, and other activities as needed.
  • Occasionally, attend events to support event-related needs.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.
