Lyft – Head of Federal Policy (Washington, D.C.)
Lyft is looking for an experienced Head of Federal Policy to lead our U.S. Federal Policy team based in Washington, D.C. This individual will develop and implement advocacy strategies on key federal government priorities across Lyft’s focus areas, including technology, transportation, and worker classification. This leader will play a critical role in helping riders get out into the world and providing drivers with flexible work opportunities.
This position requires some travel and evening availability and will report to Lyft’s Chief Policy Officer.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop Lyft’s Federal Policy team, overseeing federal policy and advocacy.
- Develop and execute engagement strategies with federal legislators, agency staff, and administration officials to advance Lyft’s priorities, including worker classification and autonomous vehicles.
- Provide senior leadership with guidance and analysis on key policy issues to support informed business decisions.
- Manage relationships with trade associations, third-party stakeholders, and relevant coalitions to advance Lyft’s policy goals.
- Track and respond to congressional inquiries and administration requests.
- Represent Lyft in political activities, promoting the company’s interests and priorities.
- Manage federal consultants to enhance advocacy strategy, messaging, reach, and impact.
- Draft memos for executive leadership and support C-suite executives in meetings with federal stakeholders.
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in federal government or government affairs in Washington, D.C., including significant congressional experience.
- Proven track record in people leadership, team management, and government relations.
- Established relationships on Capitol Hill with key members from both political parties and within key committees, including:
- Transportation and Infrastructure
- Commerce
- Education & Workforce
- HELP
- Ways & Means
- Finance
- Veterans Affairs
- Appropriations
- Deep knowledge of the federal legislative and regulatory process.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to collaborate across functions.
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Law or master’s degree preferred.
- Private sector experience in tech or transportation is a plus.

Work Schedule
This role follows a hybrid in-office schedule, requiring three days per week in the office (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays). Team members can also work remotely from anywhere for up to four weeks per year.
