Local Government & Community Coordinator, Lead

Salary Grade: G05
Minimum – Midpoint – Maximum: $86,016 – $116,120 – $146,226

Summary

Under general supervision, proactively builds, manages and maintains productive relationships with key communities, customers and stakeholders. Partners with key stakeholders to balance community and company interests to develop mutually beneficial solutions through political and issue-based campaigns.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Builds positive relationships with key community stakeholders, including but not limited to city council, mayor, chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, educational institutions, businesses, city and county managers, local media, advocacy groups, etc.
  • Coordinates campaign operations including strategy, grassroots/grass tops/field organizing, marketing, messaging, and research/analysis.
  • Serves as central point of contact for community members to notify the company of pressing issues and problems.
  • Identifies stakeholder teams for issue resolution and escalates issues as necessary.
  • Manages resolution progress and communicates updates to stakeholders.
  • Identifies trends and opportunities to proactively resolve community issues.
  • Participates in internal meetings/trainings to gain understanding of projects.
  • Develops and manages community advisory groups, town halls, and events.
  • Ensures company visibility at public events and in the community.
  • Identifies and promotes local strategic investment opportunities and engagement.
  • Communicates community situations and aligns strategies with company goals.
  • Prepares company representatives for community-facing events.
  • Stays informed on company issues and communicates them appropriately.
  • Promotes a safety-conscious work environment by influencing safe practices.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, communication or related field preferred, with five to seven years of related experience, including relevant utility experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet PNM driving requirements at all times.
  • Must comply with all PNM driving safety policies and complete training as needed.

Communication Skills

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret highly complex documents.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles using innovative techniques.
  • Ability to deliver persuasive speeches and presentations on complex topics.
  • Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in all situations.
  • Effective listening and responsiveness to a wide range of questions.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to perform basic math operations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Computer Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  • Social media experience a plus.

Analysis and Problem-Solving Ability

Ability to apply creativity and analytical skills to problem-solving. Capable of balancing multiple community needs while effectively communicating with management.

Decision Making

Authorized to resolve community issues and approve functions/events within strategy and budget.

Scope and Impact

Manages multiple communities and interacts frequently with local elected officials. Contributes to positive outcomes in local government, business, and community trust-building efforts.

Physical Demands

Ability to sit for up to 2/3 of the time; stand, walk, and stoop up to 1/3 of the time. Requires good vision and manual dexterity. Occasionally lift/move up to 10 pounds. Must be able to attend events outside normal work hours.

Work Environment

Office environment. Significant travel may be required, up to three days per week.
