Communications Associate
The Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI) is a non-partisan, public-interest law firm, committed to fighting for immigration policies that serve national interests, not special interests. We are at the forefront of the immigration issue: arguing before the Supreme Court, testifying before Congress, and appearing on national television, podcast and news sites.
IRLI is seeking a do-it-all communications pro who will work under the supervision of the Director of Communications, serving as a producer for IRLI’s podcast content, writing and editing op-eds, and managing our social media accounts.
Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Book guests for IRLI podcast content; operate video and audio equipment
Pitch stories to journalists and respond to incoming media calls
Manage, create, and schedule content for all company social media accounts (e.g., Facebook, X, YouTube)
Update content to IRLI’s website using WordPress
Develop media strategies to inform the public about key issues
Knowledge of news cycles and an understanding of U.S. immigration issues
Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
College graduate with a degree in journalism, communications, political science or business management is required
Individual must possess a minimum of 2 years combined communications, administration and social media experience
Must be able to work well under pressure and respond to numerous media outlets timely and effectively
Must be a self-starter with the ability to handle multiple priorities
Demonstrate excellent writing skills
Imagination to leverage new and legacy media to increase public awareness of our work
Knowledge of immigration issues and policies desired
Experience with video equipment and podcast production is preferred.
This position is located at IRLI’s headquarters near Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. It is a full-time, non-exempt position. Hybrid Schedule: In-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; Telework Monday and Friday. IRLI offers a generous benefits package, including health and dental insurance and 403(b) contributions.
