The Role

The Senior Director, Government and Regulatory Affairs reports to the General Counsel and drives a number of areas of focus. The position leads and drives Bluetooth SIG’s advocacy and engagement with government and spectrum regulatory bodies in the US and around the world, in order to secure appropriate spectrum regulations that permit unimpeded Bluetooth technology usage in existing and new spectrum, as well as lobby for the adoption of the right government regulations in support of new Bluetooth technologies.

The Senior Director, Government and Regulatory Affairs is responsible for managing and overseeing all regulatory matters and compliance issues related to the Bluetooth ecosystem, including spectrum, infrastructure, public safety, and privacy policymaking.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and cultivate relationships with third party organizations on behalf of Bluetooth SIG and its members
  • Develop support for Bluetooth SIG board-approved policy priorities
  • Coordinate with internal member company units to ensure alignment and communication of regulatory positions

Regulatory Program:

  • Oversee SIG Regulatory program
  • Chair the Regulatory Expert Group
  • Manage Bluetooth SIG regulatory strategy and implementation (U.S. and international)
  • Facilitate technical input to regulatory bodies
  • Build coalitions among members for regulatory engagement
  • Represent SIG in spectrum-related technical conversations
  • Motivate members to inform policymakers of SIG-supported policy positions
  • Participate in third-party events to advance SIG’s goals
  • Align member company positions for unified government/regulatory engagement
  • Develop and present regulatory and policy communication materials
  • Coordinate with SIG’s communications team for aligned messaging
  • Collaborate with SIG’s engineering team on licensing and spectrum strategy
  • Guide spectrum sharing studies in collaboration with the Regulatory Expert Group
  • Monitor global regulatory trends and activities
  • Effectively manage global support personnel and consultants as needed
  • Travel as required

Skills and Requirements

  • Expert-level knowledge of existing and potential Bluetooth technologies
  • 10+ years in wireless telecommunications regulatory processes
  • 5+ years of Bluetooth regulatory experience
  • Experience with FCC, ETSI, and other national/international regulatory bodies
  • Proven ability to manage proposals for regulatory submissions
  • Quick learner in ambiguous environments
  • Strong strategic and critical thinking
  • Deep understanding of technology standards development
  • Experience with spectrum regulation and policy
  • Proven ability to build relationships across competing organizations
  • Skilled at presenting technical topics to both technical and general audiences
