The Mackinac Center for Public Policy seeks a Director of Energy and Environmental Policy to spearhead innovative reforms that will redefine Michigan’s energy future. 📋 Responsibilities
Develop and execute a strategic vision for the Mackinac Center’s Energy and Environment Initiative, positioning Michigan as a beacon of free-market energy innovation.

Develop a research agenda that lays the foundation for policy reform, producing studies, reports, op-eds and commentaries.

Arm Michigan’s policymakers with data, research and insights.

Represent the Mackinac Center at high-impact events, amplifying your influence and forging connections with other leaders.

Partner with our communications team to transform rigorous research into effective messages, shifting public opinion and sparking debate. Promote your work in state and national media outlets.

Collaborate with allies across the country to champion reforms, sharing your expertise to inspire change beyond Michigan’s borders.

Work with our fundraising team to secure the resources needed to drive impact.

Manage an analyst and project contractors as needed.

🎓 Qualifications
Deep commitment to free-market solutions for public policy challenges.

5+ years of experience in policy, government, or the energy sector.

Strong desire to advance policies in Michigan consistent with property rights and sound economics.

Experience in energy and environmental policy is preferred, but a candidate with experience in a related field will be considered.

Entrepreneurial mindset with strong leadership skills.

Exceptional research, analytical, writing and communication skills.

The Mackinac Center is a nonprofit organization with 45 full-time employees, a 50-member Board of Scholars and an annual operating budget of $11 million.

This full-time position is based in Midland, Michigan, and reports to the Executive Vice President. The Mackinac Center offers competitive salary and benefits including but not limited to health, dental, health savings account (HSA), flexible spending account (FSA), employer paid life insurance policy, short & long-term disability coverage, 403(b) retirement account with employer match, 30 days paid time off, in addition to ten paid holidays per year.

We recognize that the right candidate may be located outside of the Midland, MI area and are open to discussing relocation assistance as part of the overall compensation package.
