## Position Summary
The Public Relations Specialist supports the Public Relations team’s execution of ACP’s internal and external communications strategy. This role plays a key part in ensuring team operations run smoothly, working across portfolios as a utility player, coordinating logistics, reviewing and drafting communications materials, monitoring the press inbox, and other responsibilities as assigned.
Working closely with the greater Communications department, Marketing, Policy, Advocacy, and other cross-functional partners, the Specialist contributes to communications content development (blogs, social media, press materials, etc.) and distribution. They will support ACP events and engagements where appropriate and coordinate daily operations for the PR team. This role requires strong organization, attention to detail, foundational writing skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while contributing to team-wide goals.
## Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities

– **Monitor the press inbox** and triage incoming media inquiries, routing requests to the appropriate team members and flagging time-sensitive items for rapid response.
– **Assist with drafting and editing press materials** including press releases, media advisories, statements, and talking points that clearly convey ACP’s positions on clean energy policy, market developments, and industry milestones.
– **Support development and distribution of communications content** across channels, including blog posts, social media copy, member-facing newsletters, and advocacy updates, ensuring consistency with ACP’s messaging and brand voice.
– **Conduct daily media monitoring** and compile coverage reports tracking news and narratives related to clean energy, ACP’s priority issues, and the broader policy environment.
– **Maintain and update media contact lists** and distribution databases, identifying relevant reporters, outlets, and editorial contacts across energy, policy, and trade media beats.
– **Coordinate logistics for press and public affairs activities** including media briefings, press conferences, spokesperson preparation, and PR-related components of ACP events and conferences.
– **Collaborate with cross-functional partners** in Policy, Membership, Research, and State and Federal Affairs to gather information, align messaging, and ensure communications materials accurately reflect ACP’s priorities and expertise.
– **Coordinate recurring team operations** and administrative processes including content calendars, internal trackers, and PR activity logs, proactively identifying opportunities to improve workflows and coordination.
– **Develop working knowledge of ACP’s policy priorities**, member sectors, and the clean energy industry landscape to inform and strengthen communications work.
– **Represent the Public Relations team** at internal planning meetings and external events as appropriate, supporting ACP’s visibility and mission through professional stakeholder communications.
– **Prepare spokesperson and executive support materials** including media briefing documents, interview talking points, anticipated Q&A documents, and background research ahead of media engagements, press events, and public appearances.
– **Maintain core PR platforms** including media monitoring, newswire distribution, and contact database tools, and manage associated vendor administration including invoice processing, purchase orders, and payment tracking.
## Education, Experience, Skills
– Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or related field, or equivalent experience.
– 2+ years of experience in communications, marketing, digital content, or related field.
– Strong execution skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver consistent, high-quality work across multiple communication channels.
– Demonstrated attention to detail and ownership in managing recurring processes and deliverables with accuracy and consistency.
– Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal stakeholders and collaborate effectively across teams, building positive working relationships and contributing to shared goals.
– Experience drafting, editing, and refining content for internal and external audiences with clarity and consistency.
– Understanding of how communications work connects to broader organizational priorities, with the ability to support coordinated execution across newsletters, events, and digital channels.
– Ability to plan and sequence work effectively, manage timelines, and anticipate dependencies across projects.
– Foundational subject matter knowledge of communications channels, including newsletters, social media, and virtual events; stays current on tools, platforms, and best practices.
– Demonstrates a problem-solving mindset, identifying opportunities to improve workflows, coordination, and communication processes and contributing practical, actionable solutions.
– Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities, demonstrating flexibility, responsiveness, and a proactive approach to supporting team objectives.
## Job Conditions
We are a fast-paced, high-energy organization with a very ambitious agenda and a staff that is highly motivated. This position may experience high-level work demands and independent decision-making under tight timelines. Occasional travel outside of the Washington, DC area for meetings or events may be required. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. ACP will not sponsor applicants for work visas.
We reasonably believe that the base salary range for this position is **$65,000–$75,000**. At ACP, a wide range of factors are considered when making compensation decisions including and not limited to skill set, experience, training, education, knowledge, and other business and organizational needs.
