Digital Engagement Associate

**Reports to:** Assistant Director of Strategic Communications (“Assistant Director”)
**Term:** Immediately, One‑Year Term
**Status:** Full‑time, Exempt Employee, 40 hours/week
**Salary:** $70,000–$85,000
**Location:** Washington, D.C.

# Position Description
The Digital Engagement Associate will help advance the priorities and programs of AAJC through a demonstrated passion and ability to convey stories through social media, graphics, and digital and audio‑visual communications. The Associate must think strategically, thrive in a fast‑paced environment, and contribute to various advocacy initiatives. The Digital Engagement Associate will help craft compelling narratives, drive engagement across multiple platforms, and support the organization’s strategic communication goals.

# Duties and Responsibilities

## Organizational Leadership and Strategic Planning
– **Programmatic planning** — Act as a thought partner to the Assistant Director to support and implement plans aligned with AAJC’s mission, strategic plan, and policy goals.
– **Partner coordination** — Coordinate with local partner grantees, affiliate organizations, and coalition partners on program and policy initiatives.
– **Communications strategy** — Work closely with policy leads and staff to set communications strategies, goals, and solutions.
– **Organizational processes** — Follow organizational processes and procedures.
– **Cross‑organizational initiatives** — Lead initiatives in partnership with internal departments.

## Direct Communications Responsibilities
– **High‑quality deliverables** — Deliver high‑quality products in a fast‑paced environment while meeting tight deadlines.
– **Digital media creation** — Create compelling visual digital media, simplifying complex topics into digestible communications products (fact sheets, newsletters, emails, presentations, motion graphics, infographics, data visualizations).
– **Social strategy** — Generate social media and digital platform strategies aligned with AAJC’s goals; draft, post, and monitor content.
– **Website management** — Edit, produce, and maintain the AAJC website.
– **Blog oversight** — Oversee the blog process, ensuring accuracy and quality; write, edit, and develop content.
– **Performance metrics** — Develop key performance metrics to evaluate and enhance outreach efforts.
– **Social listening** — Conduct social listening to inform messaging and responses.
– **Integrated communications** — Connect media relations, storytelling, messaging strategy, social engagement, and emerging technologies.
– **Video production** — Manage the full video production process from storyboarding to publishing.
– **Editorial calendar** — Manage an editorial content calendar covering media relations and social media needs.
– **Project management** — Apply effective project management skills for cross‑collaboration.
– **Other duties** — Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

## Fundraising
– **Donor communications** — Collaborate with development staff to provide content for donor communications (metrics, event support, newsletters, reports).
– **Event support** — Attend meetings and events; support donor and prospect engagement.

# Educational and Professional Experience

## Education and Experience
– **Bachelor’s degree.**
– **Three (3) years of relevant experience** in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, media, or related fields.
– **Strong understanding and passion** for civil rights and Asian American and Pacific Islander issues.

## Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
– **Outreach communication** — Strong outreach and verbal communication skills.
– **Writing and editing** — Excellent writing, editing, organization, and attention to detail.
– **Deadline management** — Proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
– **Media campaign execution** — Experience planning and executing media campaigns.
– **Graphic design** — Skilled in graphic design and basic video editing (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut).
– **Technical proficiency** — Proficient with Microsoft Suite and Google products.
– **Social media expertise** — Advanced expertise across major and emerging platforms.
– **SEO knowledge** — Strong knowledge of SEO and audience engagement.
– **CMS proficiency** — Proficient in WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, and similar tools.
– **Independent work** — Able to take initiative and work independently.
