## Position Summary

The Director, Health Policy and Practice is a key leader within APMA’s Advocacy Department responsible for shaping and advancing the association’s regulatory, payer, and state policy agenda. This position develops and executes strategies to support the practice of podiatric medicine, ensures APMA’s strong presence in regulatory and payer arenas, and creates valuable resources for member compliance, reimbursement, and coding. The Director will also mentor staff and collaborate with stakeholders to influence healthcare policy at both the federal and state levels.

## Key Responsibilities

### Health Policy

– Provide expert counsel on policy issues related to payment systems, clinical practice, and coding.
– Serve as APMA’s primary liaison with federal regulatory agencies, including HHS, CMS, and DOL.
– Lead the development of APMA’s responses to regulatory proposals, comment letters, and information requests.
– Direct APMA’s strategies and engagement with public and private payers.
– Collaborate with the Clinical Affairs Department on quality initiatives, including the design of alternative payment models.
– Guide APMA’s involvement in RUC, CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 processes and represent the association at relevant meetings.

### Practice and Coding Resources

– Develop compliance and reimbursement tools and resources to support members.
– Oversee the creation and dissemination of coding education materials.
– Provide technical assistance to members and state component societies on reimbursement and coding issues.

### State Policy

– Lead APMA’s state policy and advocacy strategy.
– Supervise the development of state advocacy tools and resources.
– Build and strengthen relationships with state component societies, insurers, and external partners.
– Mentor and guide staff to support state-level advocacy and stakeholder engagement.

### Leadership and Management

– Support the Vice President, Advocacy, in managing departmental goals and operations.
– Serve as the lead liaison to health policy and coding committees and related work groups.
– Oversee activities of the Podiatric Carrier Advisory Committee and Private Insurance Advisory Committee.
– Supervise assigned staff and consultants, providing strategic direction and professional development.

## Required Skills and Qualifications

– Bachelor’s degree in political science, health policy, public administration, or a related field is required; advanced degree (JD or Master’s) preferred.
– 5–7 years of experience in healthcare policy, government relations, or advocacy.
– Experience with Congress, regulatory agencies, payers, or provider associations strongly preferred.
– Strong knowledge of healthcare systems and physician practice operations.
– Expertise in regulatory and payer policy processes, particularly in the provider space.
– Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex policy documents.
– Demonstrated leadership and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
– Strategic thinker with the ability to connect policy developments across healthcare sectors.

## Pay

$140,000.00 – $150,000.00 per year
