Job Summary

Leads API Downstream’s health and chemical management policy development and supports product stewardship advocacy efforts on key member issues through management of the Health & Product Stewardship Committee (HPS) and the Product Stewardship Policy Group (PSP).

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Work with assigned committees to ensure member company engagement on approaches to regulations, legislation, and policies while coordinating with other API Segments, API Communications, Legal, and Government Affairs departments.
  • Develop and implement industry priorities and programs with the objective of supporting and advancing public policy to benefit API and its members.
  • Support strategy development and execution to achieve positive outcomes with API staff, allied trades, coalitions, and other stakeholders.
  • Advocate for legislation, regulation, and other government initiatives pertaining to chemical management, risk evaluation, risk management, and risk communication that are balanced, risk-based, and anchored in sound science.
  • Act as a spokesperson for API and the industry with national, state, and local policymakers, as well as private sector companies, the media, think tanks, and non-governmental organizations.
  • Provide API leadership with annual budget needs based on member priorities.
  • Oversee spending and project management of third-party contractors in the area of responsibility.

Key Relationships

Broader chemicals management and product stewardship issues report to the Senior Manager.

Qualifications

  • 7–10 years of experience in a similar role and subject matter expertise.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of the oil and natural gas industry is required.
  • Initiative and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others in the department, across the organization, with member company representatives, and with allies.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and graphical communication skills, strong planning and organizational abilities, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to remain in a stationary position while working on a computer.
  • Move about the office to access office machinery, meeting rooms, and other work areas as needed.
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment such as printers and copiers.
  • Transport items and equipment weighing up to 10 pounds on occasion.

Travel Requirements

Approximately 10%, but may vary based on individual job needs and function.

Travel expectations include the percentage of travel required, travel locations (local or specific states/countries), and whether overnight travel is necessary.

This salary range is based on the Washington, DC market and may be adjusted based on the candidate’s geographic location. Candidates are typically hired at a point within the salary range based on prior experience, education, and market demand for the role. Candidates are also compared internally with their peers.
