In this workshop, you’ll learn how to improve your prose and burnish your written communications credentials.

The Principles of Writing for Advocacy
Public affairs professionals write frequently, but they are rarely trained as professional writers. How do writers develop messages that simplify complex issues and move people to act? This session will cover crafting top-notch action alerts, call scripts, op-eds, letters to the editor and more, including:
- Developing a simple and powerful message that resonates with your target audience
- Structuring your argument to ensure a strong start and memorable finish
- Strategies for removing industry jargon and injecting clarity into your advocacy writing

Persuasive Writing to Influence Policymakers and Advocates
What makes a successful op-ed, action alert or social media call to action? This session will delve into the structures and characteristics of outstanding persuasive pieces, including:
- Drafting a newsworthy op-ed or letter to the editor
- Creating action alerts and other persuasive messages that drive action
- Perfecting your organization’s public policy “elevator speech”
