Virtual Workshop

Crafting Presentations and Speeches

September 7, 2023
1:30 p.m.−3:45 p.m. ET

When written or presented well, a speech can inspire action, convince audiences or engage them to support your cause. Both experienced and novice speakers need strategies to cut through the noise, calm their nerves or gauge which message will resonate. Join us for a workshop covering best practices for crafting effective speeches and presentations.

In this program, you’ll learn how to:

  • Determine appropriate messages and tones for different audiences and venues
  • Use data for rhetorical impact
  • Create speeches that can be re-purposed into other public affairs content
  • Develop and deliver more compelling PowerPoint presentations

This program is eligible for 2 credits toward the Certificate in PAC & Grassroots Management, 2 credits toward the Certificate in Government Relations and Lobbying, and 2 credits toward the Certificate in Public Affairs Management.

Crafting Your Speechwriting Style and Preparing the Speaker

Speechwriting requires different skills and strategies than other communications vehicles. Great speeches translate complex policy or business issues into understandable and digestible remarks that inspire key contacts or the public to take action. Our communications professional(s) will address these techniques:

  • Determining the overall message and purpose of the speech
  • Translating complex issues into everyday language
  • Crafting compelling stories using data, and using data to find compelling anecdotes
  • Writing a speech that matches the event, speaker and audience
