The successful candidate will have: 1) strong ability to analyze and effectively communicate complex policy issues in plain English; 2) a thorough understanding of the legislative process with a keen and succinct ability to assimilate and produce content relevant to health IT; 3) ability to execute online and offline strategies to cultivate member involvement in the policymaking process; 4) the ability to communicate directly with public officials and translate conversations back to CHIME’s stakeholders; 5) a sharp understanding of major policy and political influences in healthcare and an interest in furthering his / her knowledge of the rapidly changing health IT ecosystem; and 6) experience with coalitions, associations and a capacity to build support for advocacy campaigns.

Duties and responsibilities

Develops and leads CHIME’s congressional engagement strategy, with direction from CHIME’s Vice President, Public Policy.

  • Monitors, tracks and reports on congressional proposals that impact CHIME policy, operations, or intellectual property matters.
  • Compiles, organizes and maintains up-to-date contact information for Congressional staff, stakeholders, and government agencies and helps to maintain contacts with these entities.
  • Implements work plans supporting CHIME’s strategic policy goals, including conducting outreach to Capitol Hill staff, organizing briefings on CHIME policy positions and engages with other parts of the Administration on relevant policy issues.
  • Coordinates and leads Capitol Hill education initiatives, including staff meetings and Hill events.
  • Represents CHIME at committee hearings and other outside meetings, as assigned.
  • Prepares meeting summaries, as requested, suitable for distribution to CHIME leadership and members.
  • Writes and edits content for the weekly Washington Debrief and other member communications as assigned.
  • Assists with preparation of written and verbal statements for press and other purposes.
  • Assists with development and communication of CHIME public policy positions om legislation and draft legislation.
  • Assists with the update and maintenance of the Public Policy pages of the CHIME website, for timeliness, content and relevancy.
  • Assists the VP, Public Policy in preparation and review of briefing materials, including Board reports, monthly board updates, and yearly budget justification.
  • Performs other duties as required in support of CHIME public policy goals and objectives.

 

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Five years of related work experience, internships or combination thereof
  • Previous experience with a congressional office
  • Outstanding communication and research skills with ability to achieve results in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of health policy, and/or healthcare. Health IT / digital health expertise ideal.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Social media savvy (Twitter, LinkedIn, Blogs
