ABOUT DIRECTOR – FEDERAL AFFAIRS POSITION
SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Seeking an experienced healthcare policy advocacy professional for the position of Director – Federal Affairs reporting to the Vice President Federal Affairs with the proven ability to enhance McKesson’s leadership and policy brand in healthcare and related public policy and advocacy.
- McKesson Public Affairs utilizes an integrated advocacy campaign model. Federal Affairs works closely with business and corporate leadership to ideate and drive our political and legislative strategies and priorities.
- McKesson believes public policy outcomes are best shaped in a policy and politically inclusive fashion. Proven track record of success working with multistakeholder groups or coalitions to drive measurable bipartisan policy outcomes.
- Demonstrated success at enhancing and amplifying our policy brand through direct engagement with policymakers, stakeholders, and the broader public policy community through strategic partnerships and forums by articulating a patient-centric outcomes narrative.
- Develop and grow federal advocacy capabilities on sustainability, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Strong track record demonstrating the ability to identify and understand emerging trends and critical issues in healthcare, curate relevant data and insights, frame an appropriate public policy solution or response – all to internal business clients and external policymakers and influencers.
- Generate timely and insightful political and policy intelligence through direct relationships with policymakers and stakeholders that would meaningfully inform business partners on competitive risks and opportunities addressable through policy engagement.
- Strong acumen in written advocacy through testimony, legislative drafting, and regulatory comments that persuasively communicate a differentiated policy perspective.
- Develop political engagement strategies beyond the McKesson Employees PAC for strategic engagement with elected officials, caucuses, and other political constituencies.
- Support the management of the McKesson Employees PAC and its growth in collaboration with the PAC Board and leads for federal affairs and state affairs.
- Ensure political and lobbying compliance in the execution of the role.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of eight years of relevant healthcare public policy experience evidenced by both legislative and policy outcomes, as well as success working in progressive responsibilities in either legislative or executive branch roles. Additionally, corporate and/or healthcare trade association or other healthcare advocacy organization a plus.
- Recent experience should include tenure as senior staff to a Member of Congress serving on a healthcare jurisdictional committee and/or to an executive branch official similarly focused.
- A deep understanding of the federal government ecosystem and its impacts on healthcare policy.
- Business and financial acumen at the intersection with public policy.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree (Required)
- MBA, JD, or Master’s degree in a health-related field (Preferred)

In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered.
