The company’s Total Rewards package is at or above industry levels. The expected base salary range for this position is between $150,320 – $197,295 USD. Job-related skills, experience, education, and location will be considered in setting actual starting base salary. In addition to your base salary and depending on job level, eligibility, and performance, a total package may include profit sharing, a short-term incentive, and/or long-term incentives. About the Role

As Director, Federal Government Relations, you will be primarily responsible for supporting SC Johnson’s efforts to influence U.S. public policy impacting the company’s business, products, and operations. You will build and maintain effective working relationships with various government stakeholders and others who may influence public policies of interest to the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support SC Johnson’s government relations program, primarily at the U.S. federal level.
  • Work closely with department leadership to advance the company’s public policy priorities, especially related to plastic waste, and optimize the company’s profile and visibility with policymakers.
  • Monitor and research federal legislation and regulations (with particular emphasis on EPA, FDA) impacting the company.
  • Evaluate the impacts of policies with input from business units and assist with developing and implementing strategies to protect and promote company interests.
  • Collaborate with business teams and various functions across the company (e.g., Regulatory Affairs, Public Affairs, Law, RD&E, Sustainability, Human Resources, Product Supply) on a range of projects and initiatives.
  • Actively engage with SC Johnson’s U.S.-based trade associations (including NAM, HCPA, ACI, PCPC, and FCA), representing company interests and helping drive industry alignment on issues affecting the company.
  • Manage administration of the company’s federal political action committee (SCJPAC), including developing candidate contribution recommendations, annual fundraising solicitations, and compliance-related activities.
  • Perform similar legislative and regulatory functions in support of SC Johnson’s business and public policy agenda in Canada through interaction with industry trade associations and Canadian government officials at federal and provincial levels.
  • Participate in SC Johnson’s visible presence in Washington, DC, including attending public events, social functions, and political events, and cultivating relationships with key officials, agencies, and thought leaders.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, business, international relations, communications, government affairs, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in U.S. Congress, corporate government relations, or a related-industry trade association.
  • Thorough understanding of federal legislative and regulatory processes.

Preferred Experiences and Skills

  • Progressive government or advocacy experience, ideally in the consumer and household goods industry.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with the operation of political action committees, including compliance measures.

Job Requirements

  • Full-time onsite in Washington, DC.
  • Travel time expected: <10%.
  • Remote work available once a week for eligible employees.
  • This role is eligible for domestic relocation.
