The Government Relations function at Honeywell is responsible for advising and advocating for legislative and regulatory policies that support Honeywell’s business objectives, providing sales support for major contract wins with government customers and state-owned enterprises, and enabling relevant tax, grant, and incentive benefits that lower costs.
Success within the Government Relations function is measured by priority Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) developed each year in coordination with our Strategic Business Units, High Growth Region leadership, and Honeywell’s CEO. These KPIs are updated quarterly and results are reported to Honeywell’s senior leadership.
The Director, GR will work directly with the Building Automation (BA) America’s Leadership to implement the BA growth strategy in the US and Canada.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of Government Relations will drive adoption of legislation that supports Honeywell’s products. Responsibilities include:
Create and implement the Government Relations strategy for the Americas region in support of BA’s North America growth strategy.
Build a network for Honeywell with governments in U.S. states and Canadian provincial and national governments, including development and implementation of a stakeholder engagement plan.
Assess policy initiatives and funding opportunities that could grow BA over STRAP in the region to determine whether proactive engagement is warranted. If so, develop an advocacy strategy.
Partner with businesses to develop government relations strategies related to specific product initiatives and/or business imperatives, with a focus on identifying funding sources to support business growth.
Serve as subject matter expert on legislation and the impact on Honeywell and our products.
Work with a cross-functional team of attorneys, business leaders, customers, and other government relations team members to develop creative solutions that incorporate government relations into business problem-solving.
Manage and participate in relationships with consulting firms and associations.
Develop and execute a strategic engagement plan for Honeywell GR, business, and functional leaders in the region to positively impact Honeywell’s business priorities.
Review, develop, and execute—alongside GR leadership—the recommended Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the region.
Advocate for adoption of government policies, including legislation and regulations, to drive sales for products and services and avoid costs.
Develop relationships to drive business growth with government customers.
Expand and enhance Honeywell’s profile in the region, positioning Honeywell as the leader in Building Automation to drive key customer outcomes and enable growth for Honeywell’s products and services.
Build a multi-state business development program leveraging existing and new political consultants in support of BA verticals.
Compensation
The annual base salary range for this position is $206,000 – $257,500. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Honeywell considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.
Preferred Requirements and Competencies
Bachelor’s and/or advanced degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, Chemistry, or Engineering preferred, or applicable comparable experience
Excellent internal stakeholder management: able to interact with a high level of credibility with all levels of leadership, including senior executives within Honeywell, to influence, communicate, educate, and enlist support for critical objectives
Excellent external stakeholder management (senior public officials, members of Congress): must be able to speak effectively and credibly to all levels of government as a representative of Honeywell
Strategic thinker with the ability to develop effective strategies and execute plans to achieve successful outcomes
Demonstrated record of providing clients with advice that blends government relations experience, legislative knowledge, and an understanding of business objectives
Capable of leading an effective operating system to drive results and measure the effectiveness of outcomes, with the ability to prioritize resources toward high-impact initiatives
Strong executive communication skills and personal presence to interact credibly with enterprise management and a diverse team of professionals
Willingness to travel frequently (up to 30%) within the supporting region and other key areas
