Well respected, 140+ year old trade association is seeking a Director of Government Relations. Our large membership of independent insurance agents and brokers in New York and Connecticut are engaged and value our high impact advocacy. It is a core pillar and strength of the organization.

The Director of Government Relations is responsible for leading the association’s government relations and advocacy efforts to advance and protect the interests of members in New York and Connecticut. If you are self-directed, strategic, flexible and possess excellent communication skills, this may be a great fit.

We are seeking candidates with 5+ years of legislative, political, lobbying, or advocacy-related experience, effective communication skills, digital experience and the ability to build meaningful relationships with members and key stakeholders. A Juris Doctor would be a big plus and could create more opportunity for the position, title and responsibility.

### Summary of Responsibilities:

– Develop and execute the association’s government relations and grassroots advocacy strategy.
– Identify and evaluate relevant laws, legislation, and regulations and draft new legislation and regulations as needed with member and stakeholder input.
– Develop and deliver internal and external advocacy communications.
– Direct and oversee the association’s retained lobbyists in NY and CT and engage in direct lobbying of NY and CT elected officials as needed.
– Develop and maintain effective relationships with state insurance regulators and their staff, state legislators and staff, government agencies, other industry and business groups, and the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (IIABA) Government Relations team.
– Serve as treasurer of the Association’s NY state political action committee, with primary responsibility for achieving annual fundraising goals, developing political strategy, and managing campaign finance compliance filings.
