Position: East Coast Regional External Affairs Manager, Archaea Energy, a bp company
Location: U.S.
Archaea Energy, a subsidiary of bp, is the largest and fastest-growing renewable natural gas (“RNG”) producer in the U.S., with an industry-leading RNG platform and expertise in developing, constructing, and operating RNG facilities to capture waste emissions and convert them into low-carbon energy.
Under the direction of the Chief Communications and External Affairs Officer, the East Coast Regional External Affairs Manager will be accountable for delivering Archaea’s business objectives through advocacy, strong relationships, and stakeholder engagement. This individual will provide comprehensive government and public affairs services, requiring excellent verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to create organizational value.
By fostering internal relationships, the manager will develop a deep understanding of Archaea’s business strategy and objectives, enabling the creation of robust engagement plans to advance projects in the region. Responsibilities include identifying emerging issues, building advocacy plans, and developing external relationships with communities, businesses, government bodies, and other organizations. Collaboration with Archaea’s team and bp’s U.S. and global Communications & External Affairs teams is essential.
This role requires thriving in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities. The preferred candidate will reside in a major East Coast metropolitan area, ideally the Philadelphia region, with convenient access to an airport. The position offers a hybrid schedule with significant travel (50%) across the East Coast.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
– Implement strategies for local community outreach and relationship development with key stakeholders such as local chambers of commerce, trade associations, government officials, and emergency response personnel.
– Proactively build relationships with local and state government, community, private, and non-profit organizations in Archaea’s operational areas.
– Identify opportunities for strategic community investments by screening and soliciting grant applications from local non-profits.
– Monitor and analyze local and state government policy changes or zoning and permitting requirements for a portfolio of projects.
– Share community knowledge internally to support project and operational success while balancing company and community needs.
– Ensure proactive, timely communication with community leaders on siting, permitting, construction, and maintenance activities.
– Represent Archaea at community gatherings and serve as the local stakeholder contact.
– Host project tours for community leaders, local officials, and other groups.
– Collaborate with Communications & External Affairs to identify external storytelling opportunities.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience in local community and government relations and demonstrate the ability to build strong relationships across diverse regions in the U.S.
Skills and Experience Required:
– Strong interpersonal skills for effective relationship development with diverse stakeholders.
– Strong written and verbal communication skills for internal and external engagement.
– Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously within budget and deadlines.
– Self-directed, entrepreneurial, and hardworking.
– 10+ years of experience in community or government relations.
– Preferred experience with energy issues, including climate and energy transition.
Travel Requirement
Up to 50% travel is required for this role.
Relocation Assistance
This role is not eligible for relocation.
Remote Type
This hybrid position combines office time (approximately 60%) with remote work (approximately 40%).

Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $114,000–$211,600
Paid Vacation: Based on experience (120–240 hours annually for full-time employees).
Holidays: 9 paid holidays plus 2 personal choice holidays annually.
Parental Leave: Up to 8 weeks of paid leave for birth or adoption.
