Job Summary:

This role is a great opportunity to protect and enhance the reputation of Norsk Hydro USA by building mutually beneficial relationships with government, communities, stakeholders, special interest groups, and partners, reporting to the Head of Government Relations, North America.

Candidate is responsible for aiding in the development and directly executing the Company’s government and public affairs strategy on clean energy, recycling, environment, government incentives & funding, and other related industrial policy & supply chain matters.

This person will leverage experience working with and understanding legislative and regulatory processes to identify key issues, including risks and opportunities, and support and execute the Company’s approach to advance its priorities with clean energy, recycling, environment, government funding incentives and other initiatives.

Candidate will work regularly with government policymakers, including executive and legislative officials at the international, federal, state, and local levels, as well as associations, coalitions and other stakeholders in the development and execution of policy and related objectives.

Candidate will coordinate with business units to draft a wide variety of documents relevant for government policymakers and other stakeholders including policy papers and consultation and funding submissions, as well as documents for internal audiences, including helping to draft material for board meetings, strategic planning, internal newsletters, and other purposes.

Candidate will regularly consult with and update internal experts on priority energy, climate, environment, and funding policy issues, collaboratively develop strategies and work with appropriate external stakeholders to execute.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, government, public affairs, business, or a related field is required. Master’s or professional degree in related field, such as law, is highly desirable.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in the field, including experience working directly with government policy and policymakers.
  • Strong experience in government policymaking required, including legislative and regulatory policymaking on clean energy, recycling policy, climate, and funding.
  • Former experience in government is highly desirable. A manufacturing or technical background is a plus.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Well-developed analytical skills required, as well as the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships to collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the Head of Government Affairs North America, global Government Affairs for Norsk Hydro, and relevant business units.
  • Work regularly with government policymakers, global organizations, and other stakeholders to define and advance Company’s clean energy, recycling, climate, environmental and funding priorities.
  • Regularly update the government affairs team and other experts throughout the Company on priority developments on core portfolio, recommend updates to Company’s strategy and approach, and execute as needed to advance Company’s priorities on key issues.
  • Contribute to annual strategic planning process including identifying potential disruptors to the company/industry.
  • Liaise and collaborate regularly with business associations, coalitions, and other stakeholders to effectively advance Company’s priorities with energy and incentives.
  • Work with external & internal consultants and experts in the development of strategy, written materials and for other purposes.
  • Keep abreast of global policy developments in the clean energy space and develop recommendations for approaches and advocacy as appropriate.
  • Offices for this position are located in Washington, D.C.
  • Willingness to travel (up to 50%, including some international travel).
