Overview

The Government Relations (GR) Manager serves as the liaison between Central Health (the Travis County Healthcare District) and other governmental and quasi-governmental organizations with whom the District engages to provide access to healthcare for Travis County residents with low income. Much of the Manager’s time is spent engaging with county, city, and other local government officials.

The GR Manager assists in developing and implementing government affairs strategies related to key issues and Central Health strategic plans. A primary component of the government affairs strategies involves identifying, developing, and maintaining relationships with key government officials and their staff, as well as with appropriate business and community leaders and affiliated organizations (i.e., the Central Health Enterprise). Affiliated organizations include CommUnityCare Health Centers and Sendero Health Plans, Inc.

A successful GR Manager is a clear communicator and successful relationship-builder, discrete, agile, highly organized and detailed, strategic, and proactive in communicating information. Strong skills in writing, presenting, critical thinking, relationship development and maintenance, and policy analysis are necessary.

The position works Onsite at the Headquarters during the first 90 days. Upon successful completion of the introductory period, this position is considered Hybrid, which means that individuals in this position may work both at an approved Offsite location and Onsite at a primary location or multiple locations based on business needs of the leaders the position supports.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required.
  • Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, Public Affairs, Political Science, or a related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Five (5) years of experience in government affairs/relations, public policy, public affairs, community relations, campaign work, or related experience required.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience working for, or with elected officials, or in a public sector setting such as a governmental agency, on healthcare issues preferred.
