Job Responsibilities:

The Manager, Leadership Communications drives, defines, and develops the ADA’s thought leadership communications platform to amplify the voices of ADA key opinion leaders and advance the ADA’s reputation as a trusted leader in global health care. This role strategically spearheads the end-to-end execution of communications strategies, plans, and materials in support of a multi-year thought leadership program to raise brand visibility and increase the organization’s credibility and global presence with stakeholders in oral and overall health.

This is a high-profile, high-volume role that works with leaders across various levels of the organization but has a keen focus on one-on-one content support for the ADA President, President-Elect, and Executive Director. This role also manages special communications campaigns targeted to ADA volunteers and governance bodies, along with tripartite executive leadership.

Must Have:

  • BS/BA in communications, journalism, or related field
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in/with corporate, government, non-profit, or association communications, including at least two years of executive-level speechwriting and/or ghostwriting experience; OR 9 years’ experience in lieu of degree
  • Excellent speechwriting and written communication skills
  • Strategic thinking and tactical expertise along with project management, creative thinking, storytelling, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of digital and social media landscape
  • Ability to contribute as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and key staff, direct successful leadership communication campaigns, translate strategy along with technical information into clear and engaging communications across multiple channels
  • Ability to take initiative, work autonomously as needed, collaborate with colleagues with accountability and follow-through, plus an ability to juggle multiple priorities and projects in a deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to adapt to fast-moving situations and be well-prepared with materials to support busy executives who have complex travel schedules
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and communicate with tact, diplomacy, and confidence
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Some evening/weekend work: attend officer speaking engagements as occasionally assigned.

  • Experience in dentistry, health care, or science-based professions
  • Agency or client-oriented work experience
  • Public relations background
