About the Job

This position is an important communications, policy, and governmental advocacy role, both leading and supporting ILTA’s work in these areas. This position leads or supports, and advances, the ILTA mission by creating integrated campaigns and communications in concert with the Senior Director of Government Affairs & Communications using multiple outreach channels such as social media, email promotion, web updates, blogs, written educational materials, press releases, newsletter articles and other channels. This position also supports the development and leadership of an effective advocacy strategy in concert with the Senior Director of Government Affairs & Communications. This provides proactive member and stakeholder engagement on policy issues, and by gaining support for ILTA positions from the public, the government, and other related interest groups.

Duties and Responsibilities

Government Affairs

  • Aids the Senior Director of Government Affairs & Communications in developing and carrying out ILTA’s advocacy efforts, representing the association and its interests in relevant agency and Capitol Hill meetings.
  • Organizes ILTA’s Government Affairs Committee monthly meetings, developing the agenda alongside the committee chair/s.
  • Tracks legislative developments related to the bulk liquid industry and the association’s key issues, namely related to PFAS, CERCLA, critical infrastructure, appropriations, energy, and beyond.
  • Assists in the development of ILTA’s annual congressional fly-in day ahead of the spring Board of Directors Meeting.
  • Meets with ILTA’s various policy consultants, tracking necessary deliverables and providing information as needed.
  • Alongside the Senior Manager of Membership & Policy, assists in the organization of the ILTA member led committees, working groups, and convening aspects of the membership, including scheduling, agendas, soliciting member participation, maintain distribution and other lists, recruiting chairs, and other deliverables.
  • Prepares or contributes to the preparation of comments, reports, proposals, briefings, and presentations based on agreed-upon deadlines.
  • Researches topics related to ILTA’s advocacy work and share findings with appropriate internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assists with content development and administration for ILTA membership events, such as the Annual Operating Conference and Trade Show, EHS&S Committee meetings, the Terminal Operating Practices Symposium, and more.
  • Assists with the preparation of the quarterly lobby and FEC reports, Board book, Board updates, and yearly reports.

Communications

  • Writes copy for newsletters, social media postings, website, and other printed and electronic publications.
  • Understands the tone and objectives for all written communications and scripts, and for different audiences.
  • Researches, writes, manages, edits, and sends ILTA’s weekly and monthly newsletters, press releases, and other publications as assigned.
  • Develop an efficient, results-driven process working with staff subject-matter experts to produce marketing copy, educational articles, and persuasive text, videos, and social marketing materials in a timely manner.
  • Provide support and accurate proofreading for time-sensitive ILTA letters, statements. comments, and testimony to Capitol Hill and the Administration.
  • Oversee, maintain, and regularly feed ILTA’s social media channels (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube).

Qualifications

  • Four-year college degree in a related field, such as political science or environmental studies. An advanced degree is a plus.
  • Two to four years of professional working experience. Capitol Hill, association and/or Executive Branch agency experience is a strong plus.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of business (energy/chemical industry preferred) and the American government.
  • Significant experience preparing a variety of written materials of varying topics and styles for diverse audiences.
  • Strong proofing, editing, research and project management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to be creative, problem solver, manage crises effectively and maintain a professional attitude while working under pressure.
  • Solid IT experience, including thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office; technical proficiency in database management preferred.

Working Conditions

The position is a desk job presently in a hybrid in-person and remote office setting, subject to change in the future. Limited travel, including one week to the conference and trade show and approximately four other trips (to board meetings and committee meetings) required.
