Eaton’s Corporate Sector division is currently seeking a Manager, Public Affairs – Industrial Sector. This position is remote for those candidates living in the Greater Washington DC area.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $120,075.03 – $176,110.04 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program.

What you’ll do:

The Manager, Public Affairs Industrial Sector develops and manages relationships with government agencies, elected officials and their staffs, with a focus on the U.S. federal government. Experience in aerospace/Defense policy is preferred. Manages relationships with key trade associations active in the public affairs arena to ensure that Eaton’s views are adequately expressed. Interacts with Eaton operations to facilitate greater involvement by local Eaton executives and their elected representatives. Identifies and manages key legislative and regulatory issues impacting Eaton, with a focus on federal legislation and regulations. Engages and manages outside resources (lobbying firms and trade associations). Assists the Director of Public Affairs on key issues as needed. Key Eaton outcomes: driving government programs, legislation and regulatory change that positively impacts Eaton sales; drives regulatory engagement to support positive impacts on Eaton markets; and maximizing direct sales opportunities to the federal government.

  • Proactively identifies, prioritizes and manages key federal public affairs issues. Key issues are those in which legislation or government regulation can impact sales or costs, including grants for Research & Development (R&D), regulatory actions that bolster energy transition markets for Eaton’s products and services, and government spending programs.
  • Develops relationships with government agencies and elected officials representing districts in which Eaton has a significant presence, with a goal of driving policy and government funding opportunities that positively impacts Eaton sales, including supporting key Defense programs with MOEM customers; and maximizing direct government sales opportunities.
  • Assists Eaton operations in leveraging government sales opportunities, including driving government spending programs directed towards Eaton’s customers, and maximizing positive impact of government regulations to enhance energy transition markets.
  • Assists Eaton facilities in developing relationships elected officials and agency representatives.
  • Provides guidance to facilities in their government affairs activities. Leads Eaton’s “Key Contact Program,” connecting senior Eaton leaders with their elected officials.
  • Manages relationships with key trade associations that operate in the public affairs space to maximize the value/impact of the associations’ public affairs activities for Eaton.
  • Communicates effectively with internal Eaton stakeholders across all business and functional levels.
  • Assists with Eaton’s “grassroots” lobbying strategies, including the manner in which we engage our employees on key issues.
  • Engages and directs lobbying firms as needed to address identified key public affairs issues.
  • Assists the Director of Public Affairs on managing significant public affairs issues as needed.
  • Assists in the management of Eaton’s Political Action Committee as needed.

Qualifications:

Required Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university from an accredited institution
  • Minimum (7) years experience as a lobbyist and/or key staffer for a member of Congress or executive branch official
  • This is a remote role, and will only consider candidates who currently reside in the surrounding Greater Washington DC area
  • Must be able to work in the United States of America without sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Aerospace/Defense policy

Skills:

  • Understanding how the federal and state governments can affect business operations; keen understanding of legislative and regulatory processes.
  • Experience in and understanding of multinational business functions, and the ability to function as a “bridge” between the regulatory/legislative arena and corporate business environment; Outstanding relationship building and communications skills; ability to anticipate emerging issues and develop strategies to respond to them.
