Trinity Industries is searching for a talented team player to fill the open position of Program Manager, Public Affairs in our Dallas HQ. 

The Program Manager, Public Affairs, will facilitate public affairs issues and project management, and plan the involvement of Trinity Industries, Inc., and its subsidiaries, (“Trinity”) in federal, state and local public affairs issues.  This role, reporting to the Vice President of Public Affairs, is also responsible for the management of the company’s political action committee.

What you’ll do:

 

  • Prepare executive level legislative analysis: identify legislation; define trends, set objectives, plan courses of action
  • Manage the company political action committee, prepare PAC reports and databases, PAC communications, conduct PAC recruitment and PAC Board products and presentations
  • Coordinate and assist in legislative issues and outreach, incentives programs, regulatory activities and developing Trinity’s governmental affairs position and promoting business initiatives
  • Serve as a federal and state registered lobbyist and acts as liaison between legislative and agency entities, and Trinity
  • Provide regular reports on potential opportunities and tracks legislation affecting Trinity policies and practices
  • Responsible for managing lobbying efforts with federal and state legislatures and other elected state officials to persuade them to support legislation favorable to Trinity’s business interests
  • Study federal, state and local proposed legislation to determine possible impact on Trinity
  • Examine wide ranging federal, state and local legislative and regulatory issues, obtains information to identify prospective business impacts
  • Coordinate, plan and develop legislative outreach for federal, state and local elected officials
  • Assist in writing and preparing policies that support organizational goals with regards to federal, state, and local governmental affairs
  • Act as a federal and state registered lobbyist and serves as liaison between legislative and agency entities
  • Provide regular reports on potential opportunities and tracks legislation affecting Trinity policies and practices
  • Coordinate specific projects for state and local involvement impacting business units
  • Work with senior management, product management, marketing and sales personnel in support of organizational goals
  • Conduct other duties as assigned

What you’ll need:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5-8 year’s work experience in the public affairs or government relations field
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in federal and state government relations and lobbying
  • Possesses ethical research and analysis techniques
  • Must be familiar with a wide variety of Public Affairs and Government Relations concepts, processes, practices, and procedures
  • Must be a self-starting and creative team player, who is mission focused and works well individually and in a small team setting
  • Ability to accurately investigate, prepare and develop reports, issue management tools (slides, photos, booklets) in timely, cost effective manner
  • Ability to present a positive image in representing the Company and promoting its brand at conferences, conventions, town hall meetings, etc.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with company personnel, elected officials, legislative staff and others within the industry in addition to working cross functionally across multiple internal teams
  • Willingness to travel up to 40%
