Position Purpose:

Reporting to the Vice President, Government Relations and Public Affairs, the Manager of Public Affairs will work to advance the interests of the Company by building support for Stericycle in the U.S. states where it operates. This role will directly advocate with stakeholders, including local and state government, civic and community organizations to influence public policy, legislation and regulations impacting the Company. This position will also collaborate with cross functional groups to align on business objectives and strategy.

Key Job Activities:

  • Lead development and implementation of a public affairs strategy including community relations, stakeholder engagement and grassroots constituent support for the Company.
  • Identify, establish, and maintain relationships with local and state government, civic and community organizations.
  • Collaborate with management in the formulation of strategy and public policy positions.
  • Create, plan to build stakeholder and influencer alliances to help the Company affect policy debates and outcomes on matters of importance to the Company.
  • Manage planning, development, and tracking of projects and activities that affect policy debates and outcomes on matters of importance to the Company.
  • Develop company positions on key issues including position papers, talking points, briefing documents and collateral.
  • Provide communications and strategic campaign support on any matter requiring a coordinated political communications effort and mobilization of grassroots constituent support.
  • Position Stericycle as a market and thought leader in regulated medical waste, compliance services, secure information and document destruction, sustainability, and other areas in relevant communication channels and with relevant third parties.
  • Support Political Action Committee campaigns and projects.

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Preference for concentration in public policy, communications, journalism, or political science.
  • 5+ years of experience in external affairs, public affairs, government relations, political consulting, or related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working on external affairs, community affairs, or corporate public affairs including developing and leading issue management programs.
  • Experience working with a highly regulated industry, i.e., healthcare, waste, transportation, energy, or finance.
  • Ability to leverage stakeholder networks and tools to achieve business results.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented; demonstrated project management skills.
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills.
