At Too Good To Go, we have an ambitious goal: to inspire and empower everyone to fight food waste together.
40% of all food produced in the world is wasted. And that has a huge impact on the health of our planet, with 10% of greenhouse gas emissions coming from food waste.
We are a social impact company and through our marketplace app, we connect businesses that have unsold, surplus food, with consumers who can buy and enjoy it at ⅓ of retail value.
But we’re more than an app: we are a certified B Corporation with a mission to empower everyone to take action against food waste, so alongside our marketplace app, we create educational tools, explore new business solutions, and influence legislation to help reduce food waste.
We are growing fast, with our community 79 million users in 17 countries. Together, we have saved more than 259 million meals from going to waste since we started – but there’s still a lot more we want to achieve.
That means we’re looking for talented people with diverse skills and backgrounds to join us in saving surplus food from going into the bin. That is where you come in: we’re looking for an exceptional Public Affairs Manager to join us in the US and create, develop and implement a Public Policy and Government Affairs strategy for the US.
Your Mission:
As Public Affairs Manager, your mission will be to protect & strengthen Too Good To Go’s right to operate as a social impact company. You will also make sure that policymakers raise the bar when designing and implementing policy measures to reduce food waste, by continuously telling the story of the enormous environmental, social and economic impact of food waste and supporting them in coming forward with regulatory measures to save food from being wasted.
Our global Public Affairs team works in close cooperation with the global Legal team, and with local and global PR and Communications teams. As a member of the Global Public Affairs team, you will report to the Global Public Affairs Director.
Your Role:
- Defining and implementing the advocacy strategy to influence the federal and state (where relevant) food waste legislation and broader policy landscape relevant to Too Good To Go
- Devising and implementing stakeholder engagement programmes, building and maintaining a solid network amongst relevant stakeholders from political parties, NGOs, associations
- Advising on how to handle high profile political situations; delivering the appropriate message to each stakeholder, and defining the right level of engagement (dialogue, influence, partnership)
- Scanning political, reputational and regulatory risks & opportunities to Too Good To Go’s future in areas of food waste, sustainable food systems, digital platforms, packaging, consumer information
- Leading Too Good To Go’s contribution to relevant consultations and forums; drafting position papers
- Representing Too Good To Go with political authorities and institutions, serving as the first point of contact for their inquiries
- Act as spokesperson on policy issues, and represent the company in relevant policy conferences, events, panels and speaking engagements
- Running campaigns and cross-functional projects to advance our mission
- Engaging with organisations such as the Zero Food Waste Coalition
What we are looking for:
- You have a degree in Political Science, Public Policy, International Relations or Law
- You already have relevant experience in public policy, government affairs/relations roles, preferably with in-house or consultancy experience, and a record of successful campaigns and political decision-making influence in the US
- You have a clear understanding of the political landscapes at federal and state level, as well as a good knowledge of sustainability & environmental policy issues, preferably also in the area of food waste
- You have proven ability to influence, manage, build and improve relationships with stakeholders from politics, business, and civil society
- You have excellent written & verbal communication and negotiation skills, with rigorous English
- You are someone who enjoys deep-diving into emerging topics, political trends, upcoming regulations, and challenges
- You are a self-starter with a high level of initiative who functions autonomously and has a collaborative mindset
- You understand the added value that public policy and government affairs bring to a company’s operational success, and proactively seek to build internal relations
