The Royal Caribbean Group’s Corporate Affairs Team has an exciting career opportunity for a full-time Sr. Manager, Government Relations reporting to the AVP, Government Relations U.S. West Coast.

This position will be based in the state of Washington.

Position Summary:

In this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining positive government and public relations to support the company’s operations and business growth on the U.S. West Coast and Canada. Responsibilities include influencing public and policy issues through interface and communication with government and semi-government departments, agencies, industry, and community stakeholders. While focused primarily on Washington State, California, and Canada, you will provide strategic support for the company’s Corporate Affairs functions throughout the greater West Coast region as needed to support daily operational issues through smooth communication and coordination with government and semi-government departments/agencies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead, promote, and manage relationships with government officials and key stakeholders to enhance the company’s standing, obtain necessary support, and build goodwill with governments and communities.
  • Understand government policies/regulations related to the cruise industry, keep abreast of policy changes, and provide timely feedback and recommendations to management on the impact on the business.
  • Monitor regulatory and policy development and whenever appropriate, influence and shape policy directions and advocacy strategies to be aligned with company business and operational goals.
  • Maintain an intimate knowledge of political issues and trends that may have immediate or future positive and/or negative impacts on the company.
  • Articulate and communicate company positions and goals to policymakers on public issues that impact the cruise industry.
  • Arrange and coordinate all levels of government and stakeholder meetings and represent the company at external events like conferences, meetings, tours, and forums.
  • Provide regional perspective and coordinate with internal stakeholders on policy, government relations, community, and destination issues to support aligned strategies and communication.
  • Lead and manage external relations with trade and industry groups, including cruise associations, to build support for the cruise industry and enhance the company’s relationship network.
  • Support the drafting of issue briefs and responses to consultation papers issued by the government, whenever appropriate.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study
  • 10+ years of experience working in a government relations role
  • Considerable experience interacting with working-level government officials
  • Strong understanding of government protocol and detailed knowledge of policy implementation
  • Experience and demonstrated aptitude both managing and prioritizing multiple projects and initiatives
  • Strong working knowledge of the English language (verbal and written) coupled with excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex business issues
  • Accepting and adhering to high ethical, moral, and personal values in decisions, communications, actions, and when dealing with others
  • Ability to develop and implement strategies to secure support from key government agencies and regulators relevant to the cruise industry
  • Able and willing to travel domestically as well as internationally

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field of study
