CBIA, a nonpartisan nonprofit, is Connecticut’s largest business organization, with thousands of member companies, small and large, representing a diverse range of industries from every part of the state. We are the leading voice for businesses at the state Capitol.
The Vice-President of Public Policy at CBIA is responsible for leading a team of in-house and contract lobbyists at the state capitol. This role is responsible for ensuring a positive, credible, and influential presence for CBIA members before the state legislature and state agencies. The role requires an in-depth knowledge of Connecticut’s legislative and regulatory processes and issues important to the business community. It involves direct interaction with public officials, their staff, CBIA members, other business lobbyists, and the media.
JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
Responsible for coordinating with direct staff and other departments the creation and deployment of the public policy strategy for CBIA, including the day-to-day tactical requirements to support said strategy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Oversight of the activities of direct staff and outside contractors for all policy and government affairs projects as well as collaborating with other internal department teams in the development and execution of the policy strategy. This includes developing individual objectives to advance the staff and overall organization.
Work closely with and provide strategic policy and government affairs counsel, including ethics compliance requirements, to senior staff and internal departments
Oversee planning and execution of policy strategy and initiatives to ensure successful implementation (ex. on time, on budget, with the desired outcomes), including developing data driven and solutions oriented policies, effective grassroots support for CBIA positions, involvement in membership councils, effectively communicating policy positions to the Board and media, and direct communications with company GA leaders to ensure retention of current members and recruitment for new members.
Develop and implement metrics to measure success of policy strategy and initiatives

Strong leadership, communication, planning and execution skills

Ability to proactively identify innovative policy opportunities and work with communications to develop supporting messaging
EDUCATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Juris Doctorate degree
Licensed to practice law in Connecticut and in good standing with Connecticut Bar
Minimum 10 years’ experience as an attorney or lobbyist
Proven track record of success with lobbying efforts
Experience in being able to integrate understanding of public policy issues and trends into project objectives and results
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $170,000.00 – $200,000.00 per year
