Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Government Affairs Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Director, Federal Government Affairs.
The primary responsibility of this role is to represent Toyota North America before the federal government on issues related to trade policy, which includes supply chains.
Reporting to both the Vice President of Government Affairs and the Director for Global Public Policy, the person in this role will support the Government Affairs department’s objective to represent Toyota’s interests before the U.S. government and international organizations.
What you’ll be doing
- Monitor and analyze trade related issues at both the federal and international level that could impact Toyota’s business operations, such as the U.S. House and Senate, the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF), US-Japan Bilateral Meetings, G7 and G20 Summits, the US-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC), United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), World Trade Organization (WTO) decisions and new rules regarding U.S. export controls and foreign investment screening.
- Work with internal Toyota subject matter experts to develop company positions on pending legislation that could impact the company. Develop issues papers, Congressional talking points, and legislative counter measures.
- Represent the company at relevant trade associations, coalitions and business councils. Participate in each organizations’ federal affairs committee; work with internal company subject matter experts to develop policy goals and legislative strategies.
- Coordinate with government affairs colleagues at Toyota’s global affiliates to understand the impacts of cross-border policies on Toyota’s North American operations.
- Develop strong relationships with stakeholders on key committees and with Members of Congress representing Toyota facilities. Serve as a liaison between these stakeholders and the company, updating them on new company innovations, economic investments and assisting with any relevant Congressional inquiries e.g. Congressional casework and requests for issue briefings.
- Cultivate productive working relationships with the US-based diplomatic community, the US Departments of State and Commerce, business councils and other membership organizations.
What you bring
- Well established network of Congressional relationships.
- Expertise in U.S. trade policy and global trading system.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in the field of Government Affairs.
Added bonus if you have
- Experience in the House and/or Senate and the Executive Branch.
- Previous senior management position – Legislative Director, Chief of Staff, Senior Committee Staff.

The annual base salary range for this position is $151,000.00 – $245,300.00.
Paid holidays and paid time off:
- 120 hours of vacation.
- 24 hours personal holiday.
- 13 company observed holidays.
- 80 hours of accrued sick time.
