Position Overview

D/C is responsible for leading Metrea’s national security community building and engagement efforts in the National Capital Region (NCR).

includes mapping, networking, collecting, and shaping the environment to identify or create new business opportunities as well as to mitigate risk to existing business.

 

D/C will be a senior member of the Strategy team and is expected to contribute across the Strategy team and wherever relevant to the enterprise.

 

D/C RESPONSIBILITIES
(1) Engaging with the Environment (Strategic Skills)
 

Mapping

 

Work to develop a detailed understanding of the actors, influencers, and stakeholders in the defense, foreign policy and national security ecosystem.

 

Networking Using the environment mapping, D/C will be responsible for creating opportunities for Metrea to build relationships with key individuals. In particular, this role will be responsible for creating opportunities in the National Capitol Region (NCR) for Metrea to support the broader national security community, such as sponsoring or contributing to non-profit and community organizations, hosting events and meetings at Metrea’s facilities, partnering with various government and non-government organizations and so on. The role includes both building and maintaining a network across the national security ecosystem and organizing and managing events in the NCR and potentially elsewhere.
Collecting Using the mapping and networking above, D/C will be responsible for collecting, collating, and sharing information related to business opportunities and market intelligence emanating from actors and stakeholders, with the goal of identifying or creating new opportunities, and identifying and mitigating risk to current programs.

Areas of Responsibility

 

D/C will devise strategies for engaging with stakeholders described above to achieve Metrea’s strategic objectives, including increasing awareness of Metrea’s capabilities and highlighting problems that we can help solve; and will develop plans to execute that engagement.

 

This role is primarily responsible for engaging with the national security community in the National Capital Region, but may also be responsible for DoD relationships outside the NCR. Additional responsibilities may include U.S. state and local relationships, and supporting priority events and relationships globally, as required.

 

 

(2) Developing Community Tooling (Tactical Skills)
 

Support Metrea’s Understanding of Risks and Opportunities

 

Metrea as National Security Convener

 

 

Work with the broader Strategy and MAM teams to be constantly building and improving the business tools, process, and capabilities of the teams, particularly by providing insights into the ecosystem that will enable more proactive engagement with stakeholders to drive down risks and stimulate new opportunities for Metrea.

 

Use Metrea’s capabilities to contribute to the national security community, particularly in the National Capital Region (NCR), to help build and grow deep national security expertise. This could range from finding ways for Metrea’s teammates to individually contribute (e.g. mentoring, teaching, etc.) or for Metrea to organizationally contribute (e.g. sponsoring, partnering, hosting). Regardless of the individual detail, this role is responsible for thinking systematically and entrepreneurially about how Metrea can invest in the national security community of which we are a part.

 

 

(3) Supporting the Strategy Team (Strategic Skills)
 

Scanning for & evaluating opportunities

 

As a part of the Strategy team, and the broader MAM team, continually scan for wicked problems and potentially elegant solutions.

 

Participate in, and potentially lead when appropriate, evaluations of problems and potential solutions, using Metrea’s Solution Framework.

Support decision-making processes Contribute to the development of investment briefs and memos and participate in the decision-making process used to assess organic and strategic opportunities, with a particular focus on whether the opportunity properly accounts for trends and dynamics in the defense tech ecosystem.
(4) Teammate responsibilities – Providing Support
 

File participation and leadership

 

Sponsor, lead or participate in files that draw on your skillsets or specialist knowledge as required by Metrea.

Knowledge, skills, experience and traits required: Detailed understanding of Metrea’s problem-space, mission themes, capabilities, and offerings.

 

Five to ten years of experience in national security, defense, or foreign policy.

 

Expert understanding of the defense ecosystem and processes, including the Pentagon and executive branch, think tanks and media, and Congress.

 

Expert knowledge of the human terrain around the U.S. Government’s national security establishment, coupled with extensive personal contacts across the defense media ecosystem and a proven ability to generate high-impact networks.

 

Proven ability to liaise and communicate fluently with senior policy, military, industry, and non-profit officials.

 

Proven ability to go from an idea into designing, developing, and delivering projects, products, or events.

 

Ability to interact at the highest levels of industry, scientific, technology, military, policy, and finance communities.

 

Experience managing people and budgets with measurable performance.

 

 

 

Highly developed sense of judgement and maturity.

 

Intellectually curious, with strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail.

 

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, problem solve and apply analytical rigor.

 

Strong organizational skills, and discipline, along with a high sense of reliability, discretion, and confidentiality.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work 
This is a full-time non-exempt position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. Exempt Employees must have the ability to be on-call and available, as business needs require. Non-Exempt employees may be required to work over 40 hours per week with approval from the department manager.
