What does a Sr. Director of Public Relations and Government Affairs at Swire Coca-Cola do?
The Senior Director’s role is to protect the company and our brands from discriminatory or harmful public policy in the territory where we do business. This person will develop and execute political and legislative strategy to promote our interests. They will ensure relationship-building with key federal, state, and local policymakers and influencers, forging strong coalitions.
They will collaborate with the Sustainability and Strategic Partnership teams to identify locations for activations and ensure alignment with legislative priorities. Coordination with the Communications team is essential to ensure storytelling reaches influential stakeholders in the public policy arena. This role also collaborates with the industry and Coca-Cola System on policy positions.
The Senior Director leads a team of specialized Public Relations and Government Affairs professionals, promoting individual and team development and growth opportunities. They manage cross-functional processes for policy/regulatory review and implementation, identify policy trends, and develop mitigation strategies. Gaining internal buy-in and alignment for policy positions is also a key responsibility.
Responsibilities:
Support the field team’s development of a comprehensive elected official and key stakeholder engagement strategy
Mitigate policy that would negatively impact the company and promote legislation that benefits the company
Conduct research and analysis to inform policy development across all regulatory environments
Proactively identify policy trends across the network and develop plans to mitigate risks
Ensure stakeholder mapping in each region, including plans for facility visits and board placements
Represent the company at legislative days, dinners, and other gatherings with key policymakers and influencers
Coordinate with national industry and Coca-Cola system colleagues on policy development and strategy
Serve on applicable boards and develop elected official organization engagement strategy (e.g., Western Governors Association, Republican Governors Association, Democratic Governors Association, U.S. Conference of Mayors)
Ensure budgets are managed, projects are completed on time, and company protocols are followed
Contribute local, state, and federal policy perspectives to company leadership
Provide briefings and assess impact of policy trends on business
Lead a group of PRGA professionals and ensure strategic regional plans are in place
Support field team development, providing visibility and enterprise engagement opportunities
Foster a collaborative environment within the team and with internal cross-functional stakeholders
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Corporate Social Responsibility, Business, Economics, Public Affairs, or related field (required)
Master’s Degree (preferred)
10+ years of progressive career development and experience in Government Relations or Public Policy
4+ years of experience directly leading a team of professional-level team members
