Vice President, Government Relations

NCTA seeks a Vice President, Government Relations who will be responsible for representational and advocacy efforts on behalf of the cable industry with assigned House and Senate offices. This role will assist the SVP & Chief, Government Relations in coordinating NCTA’s legislative efforts.

Essential Functions

  • Advances NCTA’s legislative agenda on Capitol Hill; plays an integral role in the formation and implementation of NCTA’s advocacy programs.
  • Develops and cultivates relationships with Members of Congress and their staffs.
  • Counsels and updates senior leadership on cable-related policy issues and advises on legislative strategy.
  • Works closely with member companies to coordinate Hill meetings, share information, and convey their interests and concerns to the Government Relations Department and NCTA leadership.
  • Coordinates use of appropriate advocacy resources, both internal and external, for assigned Hill offices and special projects.
  • Participates in internal NCTA task forces as appropriate.
  • Covers assigned congressional hearings and markups, and coordinates departmental preparation for these events.
  • Monitors House and Senate floor debates on cable-related issues.
  • Develops, promotes, monitors, and helps implement new or revised policies and legislative strategies to support NCTA members’ interests.
  • Represents NCTA externally at meetings and speaking engagements.
  • Prepares policy and advocacy materials, including issue briefs, legislative recommendations, journal articles, letters, press statements, opinion editorials, action alerts, and talking points.
  • Prepares weekly reports and updates as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Background / Skills / Abilities Preferred

  • Minimum of 8–10 years of Hill, Administration, or government relations experience.
  • Expert knowledge of the legislative process and strong understanding of cable and telecommunications issues.
  • Familiarity with the FCC, NTIA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Strong sense of diplomacy and demonstrated success in developing collaborative relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts clearly to general audiences.
  • Proven ability to meet multiple deadlines through effective organization.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound judgment and discretion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Hybrid Work Schedule

NCTA currently operates on a hybrid schedule. All hires are expected to work in the office located in Washington, D.C. Staff are expected to be in the office a minimum of three days per week.
