Position Summary
The Vice President, Government Affairs, will be a strategic leader shaping AFFT’s advocacy effort. Reporting to the CEO, this role demands a proactive thinker with a proven ability to drive policy initiatives, build stakeholder relationships, and advance AFFT’s mission. This is a high- impact position with significant autonomy and accountability, ideal for someone

who excels at both visionary strategy and tactical execution.

Key Responsibilities
Program Strategy & Leadership:

Develop and implement AFFT’s government affairs strategy, aligning with organizational objectives.
Partner with leadership to craft and execute policy initiatives that promote AFFT’s mission.
Track legislative and regulatory developments impacting union membership, public sector employment, and constitutional rights.
Ensure AFFT remains agile in responding to evolving legal and political landscapes.

Collaboration & Advocacy:
Work closely with the Chief of Staff to align efforts involving the CEO and a broader team.
Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, legislators, and key stakeholders to amplify AFFT’s impact.
Develop and manage the advocacy budget, optimizing resources for maximum impact.
Contribute to AFFT’s strategic goals and foster a collaborative, mission-driven culture.

Qualifications & Skills
We seek a strategic, mission-aligned leader with a passion for AFFT’s work and a track record of success in advocacy. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, remote environment and balances high-level strategy with hands-on execution.

Required:
Proven lobbying experience in government affairs or policy advocacy.
3+ years of leadership experience in public policy, government affairs, or nonprofit advocacy.
Experience with 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations.
Strong skills in stakeholder engagement, team management, and advocacy campaign execution.
Exceptional communication, presentation, and relationship-building abilities.

Preferred:
Experience as a public sector employee or deep knowledge of public sector unions and policy.
Familiarity with managing remote teams and vendors.
Location: East Coast U.S., PA, DC preferred

Work Environment & Travel
Remote Work: AFFT operates fully remotely, with frequent collaboration via video calls and online platforms. Necessary hardware and equipment will be provided.
Travel: Expect approximately 40% travel for meetings, conferences, and relationship-building.
