Maxar Space Systems is seeking a Director of Government Relations. In this strategic leadership role, located in the Washington, DC area, you will be responsible for fostering relationships to educate legislative and executive branch decision-makers and influencers on Maxar products, services, and technologies.
Responsibilities
- Support legislative and executive branch outreach strategy and activities
- Understand U.S. Government customer processes, problems, and interests with specific focus on defense and civil space authorities
- Develop industry leadership opportunities and partnerships to advance the company’s goals
- Work closely with other corporate business functions
- Monitor, analyze, respond to, and influence federal (and occasionally state and local) policy and regulatory trends affecting the aerospace industry
- Analyze and track legislation and congressional hearings
- Prepare and edit correspondence, white papers, presentations, and other communications materials
- Represent the company among various industry groups and associations, and prepare and implement strategies to maximize the value of such groups
- Attend and prepare for conferences, meetings, special events, etc. (some travel may be required)
- Make oral and written presentations on behalf of the company and department
- Coordinate with and/or direct interns and consultants
- Serve as administrator for the Maxar Space Systems Political Action Committee including employee outreach, coordination, RSVP, budget, compliance, etc.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, public relations, communications, or related field
- 7 years of experience with a federal agency and/or Capitol Hill, preferably with a concentration on National Security Space
- Experience writing language for inclusion into legislative bills
- Experience with the appropriations and budget process and legislative calendar
- First-hand knowledge of legislative and executive branch processes, U.S. Government budget cycle, and agency behaviors and cultures
- Knowledge of and experience in the aerospace sector
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the position
- Some travel required
Preferred Requirements
- TS/SCI clearance or the ability to obtain one in the future
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
- Polished interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with corporate executives and senior government officials
- Self-starter with strong time management and multitasking skills
- Team player who can thrive in a remote and/or small office environment
- Ability to quickly grasp and communicate complex technical concepts
- Excellent oral, writing, and communication skills; able to write policy papers, letters, newsletters, and presentations; confident public speaker
Compensation
In support of pay transparency at Maxar, we disclose salary ranges on all U.S. job postings. The successful candidate’s starting pay will fall within the salary range provided below and is determined based on job-related factors, including experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions. Candidates with the minimum necessary qualifications should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range.
The base pay for this position within the Washington, DC metropolitan area is: $173,000.00 – $289,000.00 annually.
For all other states, we use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and each location where we hire may have a different range.

This position is incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and/or individual results achieved; the specific incentive plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions.
