The American Diabetes Association (ADA) seeks an individual for the position of **Vice President of State Government Affairs**. This position is responsible for leading and supervising the ADA’s State Government Affairs team; designing and implementing advocacy strategies to advance the ADA’s advocacy priorities and mission; acting as the chief lobbyist in assigned states for government affairs; and managing volunteer leadership groups as needed.

The position requires the individual to represent ADA in coalitions and other public facing groups and situations. This position works under the supervision of the Chief Advocacy Officer and works closely with colleagues in ADA’s Grassroots Advocacy, Federal Government Affairs, Payment and Regulatory Policy, Legal Advocacy, and Communications teams to achieve the ADA’s advocacy goals. Candidates for this position must be able to work independently and manage multiple priority projects. This is a remote working position.

### RESPONSIBILITIES

* **Lead and supervise** the ADA State Government Affairs Team, scheduling meetings, participating in goal and budget setting, tracking performance, and conducting employee reviews.
* **Participate** in Division leadership meetings and work in collaboration with other departments and divisions as required.
* **Drive** ADA’s state legislative agenda in alignment with advocacy priorities.
* **Act** as chief lobbyist in assigned states.
* **Facilitate** national and local advocacy committees as needed.
* **Work** in tandem with colleagues on the federal team to support federal campaigns as required.
* **Utilize** the ADA’s grassroots and communications capabilities to support state legislative activities and federal campaigns as required.
* **Represent** the ADA in speaking engagements, both internal and external.
* **Oversee** the implementation of advocacy-related communications efforts.

### QUALIFICATIONS

* Bachelor’s degree, with **10 plus years** experience in state government affairs.
* Demonstration of **active participation** in public policy making as a lobbyist, legislative, or regulatory staff person.
* A strong personal commitment to preventing and curing diabetes and improving the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
* This is a remote position with **required frequent travel**.
