## Position Summary
The Grassroots Advocacy Manager is responsible for state and federal grassroots advocacy activities in the Northeast Territory. The Grassroots Advocacy Manager’s fundamental role is to manage local implementation of the Association’s nationwide grassroots advocacy strategy for state and federal public policy advancement — including recruiting, training and engaging advocate volunteers to strengthen the Association’s relationships with state policymakers and the local Congressional delegation. This position is not responsible for direct lobbying activities, which are led by the Association’s state and federal government affairs staff.
The Grassroots Advocacy Manager will be based in New Jersey but will also cover Long Island.
## Responsibilities
– **Develop state-level strategy** – Develop and implement year‑round state‑level grassroots advocacy strategy, including community mobilization and advocate volunteer engagement plans, in consultation with local state government relations colleagues.
– **Manage federal grassroots program** – Implement the year‑round federal grassroots advocacy program in assigned geography.
– **Recruit and retain volunteers** – Grow the number, strength, and impact of the Association’s advocate network.
– **Train and mobilize volunteers** – Prepare volunteers for state and federal grassroots policy engagement.
– **Manage volunteer relations** – Coordinate with local chapter leaders and colleagues across the Association.
– **Integrate advocacy with partners** – Align grassroots advocacy with internal teams and external partners.
– **Promote policy priorities** – Work with colleagues, boards, and volunteers to promote state and federal policy priorities.
– **Report lobbying activities** – Ensure compliance with internal tracking systems.
– **Support Advocacy Days** – Assist with planning and implementation of State Alzheimer’s Advocacy Days.
– **Participate in major events** – Attend Walk, galas, and other chapter events.
– **Other duties** as assigned.
## Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree required.
– At least 5 years of experience in grassroots advocacy, volunteer engagement, community organizing, and mobilization, preferably with non‑profit, nonpartisan organizations.
## Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
– **Community engagement leadership** – Ability to identify and lead engagement opportunities supporting public policy goals.
– **Grassroots strategy development** – Experience designing and implementing nonpartisan advocacy strategies.
– **Volunteer recruitment and training** – Skilled in engaging and developing volunteers.
– **Project management** – Ability to manage multiple priorities and ad hoc issues.
– **Effective communication** in complex, matrixed environments.
– **Cultural competence** – Ability to work with diverse populations with integrity and diplomacy.
– **Issue familiarity** – Knowledge of aging, health, and long‑term care issues; government contacts a plus.
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
– Self‑motivated with sound judgment and attention to detail.
– Ability and willingness to travel across states, including evenings and weekends (up to 30%).
– Travel by car and occasionally by air is required.
– Attend the Association’s annual Advocacy Forum in Washington, D.C., and other national and regional training and professional development meetings.
– Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance required.

**Position Grade & Compensation:** Grade 307 — Salary range: $71,000–$77,000
