Director of Global Advocacy Communications

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is seeking a skilled Director of Global Advocacy Communications to contribute to addressing the global health crisis of tobacco and nicotine use. This position, based in Washington, DC, offers the opportunity to play a pivotal role in a dynamic and innovative public health movement.

Responsibilities:

  1. Partnership and Strategy:
    • Collaborate closely with country teams to develop and implement robust communications strategies in low- and middle-income countries.
    • Lead the development of strategies that amplify diverse voices, especially youth, advocating for government action to reduce tobacco use.
  2. Campaign Execution:
    • Ensure well-designed and executed communications campaigns and activities.
    • Oversee media landscape analysis to inform communications strategies in priority countries.
  3. Capacity Building:
    • Strategically enhance communications abilities of grantees and in-country teams through training workshops and hands-on coaching.
    • Work with the Digital Advocacy team to employ social media best practices and oversee capacity building for partners and grantees.
  4. Monitoring and Evaluation:
    • Develop systems for media monitoring to track progress and ensure objectives are met.
    • Lead the implementation of polls and focus groups in selected countries to inform message development.
  5. Reporting and Collaboration:
    • Lead the writing and design of annual reports to funders, highlighting success and progress.
    • Collaborate with internal teams, including the Press Secretary and Digital Advocacy team, to stay informed about global media trends and industry tactics.

Skills Required:

  • Customer service and client management experience.
  • Extensive experience in advocacy campaign development and implementation in international settings.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Experience building communications capacity through workshops and coaching.
  • Excellent English writing, speaking, and editing skills; fluency in other languages is a plus.
  • Dedication to ensuring equity for diverse backgrounds in programmatic goals.
  • Willingness to travel overseas.
  • Supervisory and staff development experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree a plus.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience.
