GHAI is an initiative of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.

About GHAI

The Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI), a program of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, draws on lessons from tobacco control and its growing experience on other public health issues to support advocacy campaigns globally. Our work includes food policy, cardiovascular health, road safety, immunization, drowning prevention, preventing epidemics, and vital statistics.

Health Systems Portfolio

The Health Systems Portfolio includes the following programs:

  1. Prevent Epidemics: Engaging policymakers to prioritize epidemic preparedness. Currently working in Ghana, Nigeria, and Senegal.
  2. Immunization: Supporting governments in Africa and Asia to strengthen domestic resource mobilization for routine childhood immunizations.
  3. Data for Health: Providing legal reviews for Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Data for Health Initiative to improve public health data collection.
  4. Hypertension Program (HTN): Supporting civil society advocacy to prevent deaths from hypertension and prioritizing HTN at the global level.
  5. Drowning Prevention: Supporting governments of Bangladesh and Vietnam in implementing drowning prevention interventions.

Position Overview: Associate Director, Communications, Health Systems Strengthening

GHAI seeks an Associate Director to lead communications initiatives for Prevent Epidemics and Data for Health. The role involves developing and implementing advocacy communications strategies, enhancing the capacity of civil society organizations, and overseeing media strategies.

What You’ll Accomplish:

  • Develop and implement advocacy communications strategies.
  • Enhance capacity of civil society organizations.
  • Develop and implement methods to increase media capacity.
  • Collaborate with GHAI and other partners on media strategies.
  • Oversee production of communication materials.
  • Evaluate country-specific communications and media advocacy programs.
  • Highlight HSS work through blog contributions, social media, and case studies.
  • Advise on communications components of the budget advocacy curriculum.
  • Develop and track content related to global health security.
  • Raise the profile of GHAI’s work on Prevent Epidemics, Data for Health, and other HSS programs.

Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in media relations, public relations, consulting, and/or advocacy campaigns.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in social media, digital advocacy, and traditional media.
  • Advocacy campaign development and implementation experience.
  • Understanding of communications strategies in low-and middle-income countries.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Comfort working in cross-cultural settings.
  • Fluency in written and spoken languages in addition to English (ideally French), preferred.
  • Experience working on health systems issues, a plus.
