Director, Government Affairs

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role, the Government Affairs Director will be part of the Global Government Affairs & Policy (GGA&P) organization, based in Washington, D.C. The successful candidate will be responsible for federal advocacy within the U.S. House, including lobbying and health care policy work, related compliance/project management, and other duties as assigned.
Encouraged travel: approximately 5 days per quarter (including over weekends); job also includes potential dinner and/or breakfast commitments on regular basis.

Basic Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree and 4 years experience working as congressional/committee staff and/or in a government affairs role off the Hill Or
- Master’s degree and 7 years experience working as congressional/committee staff and/or in a government affairs role off the Hill Or
- Bachelor’s degree and 9 years experience working as congressional/committee staff and/or in a government affairs role off the Hill
Preferred Qualifications:
- 8 or more years of House experience.
- Lobbying and health care policy background (Hill, federal agency, or with corporate/trade association’s government affairs office).
- 8 or more years of proven experience in biopharma corporate or trade association’s government affairs office, Congress, or federal agency position.
- Positive relationships with staff from the key lawmaking committees in the House, including the Energy & Commerce committee.
- Solid understanding of the current U.S. healthcare landscape including how the Medicare/Medicaid programs operate.
- Basic understanding of biopharmaceutical industry trends, especially in the areas of healthcare reform, value, and access.
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with internal partners in Washington, D.C., corporate headquarters, trade associations, and other parties as required.
- Solid understanding of general U.S. government affairs compliance including federal, lobby disclosure and LD203 requirements and encouraging processes.
- Ability to attend fundraising events on behalf of the Amgen PAC that may include out of town weekend travel in addition to evening/morning events in D.C.
- Skilled writer and communicator that can vary altitude of messaging based on audience.
- Strong dedication to ethics and compliance.
- Ability to drive processes forward in a timely manner.
- Willingness to tackle new projects as assigned.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite and forward-leaning office technology.
- Results-oriented, self-starter with proven ability to distill sophisticated issues into concise talking points, position papers, and slides; attention to detail; ability to multi-task; standout colleague, with an ability to work independently in a fast-paced, demanding environment

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
