### A Day In The Life
The Director of Government Relations is pivotal in developing and executing strategic government relations initiatives across Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Louisiana in support of Gulf States Toyota and other Friedkin businesses. This role is critical in influencing state legislation and regulatory actions that impact our organization and Toyota. The Director will advocate for the company’s interests, manage relationships with key state legislators, government officials, and stakeholders, and ensure compliance with all state lobbying laws and regulations.

As a Director of Government Relations you will:

– **Strategic Legislative Advocacy:** Develop and implement strategies to promote legislative and regulatory outcomes favorable to the organization’s goals with a particular focus on state motor vehicle franchise laws and other significant regulatory areas affecting the motor vehicle industry.
– **Expert Relationship Management:** Establish and maintain robust relationships with state legislators, regulatory bodies, and industry stakeholders, particularly in the motor vehicle industry. Represent the company in discussions and negotiations that influence state policies and regulations.
– **Specialized Advocacy and Lobbying:** Lead advocacy efforts to support or oppose legislation affecting our enterprise, with a special emphasis on state motor vehicle franchise laws and regulations. Ensure all lobbying and advocacy efforts align with organizational priorities and comply with legal standards.
– **Leadership and Team Coordination:** Direct a diverse team of state lobbyists and consultants focused on advancing the organization’s policy priorities. Manage budgeting and logistical support for lobbying activities and engagement with elected officials.
– **PAC Management:** Manage the company’s Political Action Committees, including strategy development, fundraising, disbursement of funds, and compliance with all relevant laws. Engage employees and stakeholders in PAC activities to enhance impact and visibility.
– **Detailed Reporting and Analysis:** Provide comprehensive reports on state legislative trends affecting the enterprise, especially those impacting the motor vehicle industry. Ensure accuracy and transparency in all filings and lobbying reports.
– **Additional Responsibilities:**
– Participate in select fundraisers, association meetings, Capitol events, and meetings of the political groups in which Toyota invests.
– Assume leadership roles in ad-hoc committees and organizations that are important to The Friedkin Group, its affiliated companies, and Toyota.
– Seek opportunities to help advance our policy objectives in the capitols of identified states along with those of Toyota.
– Testify in committee and collaborate with other company subject matter experts to extend our messages (and those of Toyota) within the state capitols of GST’s region (and beyond), to regulators, and other stakeholders.
– Position Toyota as a leader in the advancement of innovation and mobility in identified states.

### What We Need From You

– **Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school preferred.**
– **At least 7 years of experience** in government relations, with a strong understanding of state motor vehicle franchise laws. Experience working in the Texas legislature or state agency highly beneficial.
– **Excellent communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.** Ability to manage multiple projects and travel extensively.
– **A strong commitment to ethical behavior and integrity.**
– **Proven leadership and a team player.**

### Physical and Environmental Requirements
The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of the job, the associate is required on a daily basis to analyze and interpret data, communicate, and remain in a stationary position for a significant amount of the work day and frequently access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. The associate is regularly required to move about the office and around the corporate campus. The associate must frequently move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 25 pounds.

### Travel Requirements
50% Domestic travel particularly during legislative sessions (estimated 50% or more of the time and could be higher during peak legislative periods).
