We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to serve as the Director of Government Relations at our esteemed institution. The primary responsibility of this position is to oversee our Government Relations office at both the federal and state levels, representing the University before lawmakers and government entities in Washington D.C. and Tallahassee. The successful candidate will be relied upon to provide timely, trustworthy, and honest information to key stakeholders.

This role presents a unique opportunity to lead on public policy issues crucial to the University and our students. It involves developing verbal and written communications for internal and external audiences, cultivating relationships with elected officials, staff, business associations, and trade organizations, all while gaining deep insights into the intricacies of our institution. The Director will play a vital role in educating stakeholders on political and policy matters impacting the University community.

Responsibilities:

  • Legislative Affairs: Monitoring legislative and regulatory actions at both state and federal levels.
  • Strategic Planning: Developing and implementing strategic legislative plans.
  • Fundraising and Coalition Building: Participating in fundraising efforts and coalition building initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or graduate degree in political science, communications, business administration, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of lobbying experience with an organization, in a Legislative branch, or in another government relations field, including political fundraising. Experience with appropriations or advocacy work is highly desirable.

Skills:

  • Organizational Skills: Advanced proficiency in managing complex projects and priorities.
  • Computer Skills: Advanced proficiency in relevant software and technology tools.
  • LegiStorm: Proficiency in utilizing LegiStorm, a comprehensive database and research tool for tracking legislative activities, congressional staff, and campaign finance data, to support advocacy efforts and strategic decision-making.
  • LobbyTools: Experience using LobbyTools, a legislative tracking and intelligence platform that provides real-time updates on legislative activity, bill tracking, committee agendas, and regulatory information, to inform advocacy strategies and engage key stakeholders effectively.
  • Ability to Research and Summarize Relevant Legislative and Policy Proposals: Demonstrated proficiency in conducting comprehensive research on legislative and policy initiatives at the federal and state levels.

Travel Required:

This position is based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and requires the ability to travel.
