About Us:

The National Turkey Federation’s (NTF) is the exclusive national trade association representing the $13 billion U.S. turkey industry, our members account for more than 95 percent of all U.S. turkey production. NTF represents all segments of the industry, including growers, processors, breeders, hatchery owners and allied companies. Operating on a $3.5 million annual budget, our team of seven professionals works diligently on a hybrid schedule to promote and protect the interests of the turkey industry. The federation also has the honor of presenting the National Thanksgiving Turkey to the president at the White House each November.


Position Overview:

NTF is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Public Affairs to lead all aspects of NTF’s communications initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of five years of experience in a communications role, with a Bachelor’s degree or higher in journalism, public relations, or communications. Experience in agricultural communications is highly desirable. The Director of Public Affairs will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication plans targeting both internal and external stakeholders. Strong writing, editing, and crisis communication skills are essential, along with proficiency in social and digital media platforms.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a robust communication plan to enhance the image of the turkey industry and its products.
  • Manage and expand NTF’s online presence, including the maintenance of the federation website and active engagement on social media platforms.
  • Cultivate relationships with media outlets and disseminate news releases to ensure maximum visibility for NTF’s activities.
  • Serve as a key spokesperson alongside the President/CEO and oversee the organization’s Communications Committee.
  • Produce high-quality written content, including newsletters and annual reports, to inform and educate members about NTF’s initiatives.
  • Coordinate with external agencies and vendors as needed to support communication objectives.

  • Exceptional writing and editing abilities with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in leveraging social and digital media platforms to maximize outreach and engagement.
  • Demonstrated expertise in crisis communications management.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills with a knack for identifying and capitalizing on new communication opportunities.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful communication strategies, including social and digital media campaigns.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a communications role.

This position reports directly to the President/CEO and offers an exciting opportunity to shape the communication strategies of a leading industry trade association.
