The National Association of Federally Impacted Schools (NAFIS)—a respected, non-profit, non-partisan organization based in Washington, D.C.—is seeking a visionary and accomplished leader to serve as its next Executive Director, with the support of a dedicated team of five professionals. The Executive Director will also oversee the Federally Impacted Schools Educational Foundation (FISEF), the NAFIS Foundation.

NAFIS represents public school districts across the country that are uniquely affected by the presence of federal activity. The organization is committed to educating and engaging Congress on the importance of the Impact Aid Program (Title VII of Public Law 114-95), a critical source of federal funding for these districts.

Role Overview

The Executive Director plays a central role in advancing this mission by providing strategic leadership, overseeing the organization’s daily operations, and guiding its advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill.

NAFIS is looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking individual with a proven record of leadership, strong communication and management skills, and a deep understanding of the political landscape.

Requirements

Education/Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (required)
  • Knowledge of the U.S. Congress and the legislative process
  • Experience in budget development and implementation
  • Basic understanding of public-school finance (preferred)
  • Familiarity with the Impact Aid Program (Title VII of P.L. 114-95) (preferred)
  • Experience working with a non-profit association (preferred)
  • Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation (not required)
