What We Are Looking For:
Yazaki seeks a Government Affairs Expert to join our Corporate Planning, Communications & Strategy team in Canton, MI, or remotely from Washington D.C. or Plano, TX. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative, action-oriented setting, making enduring impacts on our organization.
The Government Affairs Expert will develop and execute strategic engagement plans to safeguard and advance company interests. This involves providing legislative and regulatory trend analysis to inform business and product planning, collaborating with various teams, and aligning government relations efforts with our overall strategy.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Interpreting political trends and assessing their impact on the company
- Drafting company positions and talking points in response to impactful proposals
- Developing government engagement policies, involving local, state, and federal officials
- Joining trade associations and industry committees, seeking leadership roles
- Creating functional strategies and objectives, developing budgets, policies, and procedures
- Direct lobbying to promote company positions on U.S. policy
- Collaborating with industry groups to achieve mutual goals
- Protecting and promoting Yazaki’s brand, image, and reputation
- Engaging with BU VP in high-level meetings as necessary
- Collaborating with industry advocates to build common interests
- Securing applicable incentives through analysis and positioning
- Contributing to broader strategic engagement efforts with counterparts in Mexico and CA
- Performing assigned projects and duties
- Understanding Japanese working culture
- Prioritizing tasks, meeting deadlines, and excelling in communication, leadership, and teamwork
What You Will Bring to the Table:
- Bachelor’s Degree in public policy, public administration, business, or equivalent
- 10+ years in a similar role with a track record of bipartisan success
- Direct experience in advocacy for policy and appropriations
- Strong network and reputation on Capitol Hill and federal government
- Experience in Governmental activities, registration as a lobbyist (a plus)
- Knowledgeable in legislative and regulatory processes, political influence techniques, public affairs strategies
- Business fluency in English; Spanish and/or Japanese fluency preferred
- 10-15% travel required (domestic and international)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, SAP
- Process-oriented, deadline-driven, excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, strong organizational abilities, critical thinking
